nothing whatsoever is objectionable as a part of the medium...with the exception of badly made, crappy sets which show mo respect for the technical aspects of the form.

so what are you asking? are you asking dov "what won't be posted on the BKP?" or are you asking the general public "what do you dislike enough that you wouldn't download it or would throw it out?" there are people who object to nipples and there are people who object to political messages. people have gotten hate mail for including toy guns in their sets.

how are you defining KiSS? if you want to know what is objectionable in a child's toy, it is vastly different from what is objectionable in art. on a super-generalized level, the only thing that is objectionable in art is bad art, otherwise what the art contains isn't objectionable in & of itself unless it is somehow modified by context. however, a lot of people object to good art just because they would object to what it represents were they to come into contact with the thing it represents in their everyday lives. but probably nine out of ten parents would not want, say, graphic sex or violence in their children's toys & in that case it would be entirely appropriate, whereas someone objecting to a representation of the same in something which is not intended for children only has a right to object in that they can stop looking at it.

in KiSS, there are so many things that could be dealt with interestingly which as of yet have not been illustrated & an attempt at doing so would in & of itself be a good thing regardless of whether other people might find the subject matter "icky."

in terms of the BKP, obviously dov has to deal with censoring things for a particular cross-section of the public which is his audience. this makes sense for him & i certainly don't find it objectionable; in fact, i have held back sets from the BKP in the past because i assumed they might be iffy (so far i haven't gotten a single complaint about the dead fetus in my croc set, though!). i am sure that other archivists, while working on a smaller scale, have to consider this problem as well-- do you turn down work according to things that bother you personally, or things that bother your audience? i think in that case it totally depends on what you as the archivist feel comfortable with. i was really impressed that sharm went with my compromise for posting nude templates on her site; obviously as he archivist, if she felt uncomfortable supplying any nude illustrations, she has the right to turn them all away on sight (in other words, she has every right to say no).

hopefully starting in march i will have more webspace and bandwidth and i would like to post more work that is mature in nature w/o being "adult," either due to visual content or abstract concept.
