It's hard to make a recommendation without knowing more about the project you have in mind. But I suspect you want to keep it under your hat at least until you've decided for yourself, possibly until it's ready for release, so I'll try answer in the general.

I've never really known what "art for art's sake" means. For me, when inspiration strikes, it's not a matter of whether I think the work will be popular, well-received, or widely understood. It's simply that... how do I put this...? When inspiration strikes me, it creates a hole in the universe that can only be filled by creating that artpiece. I can try to ignore it but I will always know that the hole is there. I MUST create the artpiece to fill in that missing piece of the universe.

Sometimes I think being an artist requires just a touch of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

So, should you make that doll? It depends on how you feel about it. If you truly need to make that doll, it should not matter what anyone else thinks about it.

As to "adultness" and "BKP appropriateness", my standards for determining whether a doll is adult or not are simple: The doll is adult if (a) the artist says it is adult or (b) the doll contains sexual content. "Sexual content" is difficult to define but I would say that, while having genitalia does not make a doll "adult", having animated genitalia does. And even that isn't always true. Defining a strict set of rules for "what is adult" is impossible but, if you told me about your idea (privately, if you prefer), I could tell you whether I would rate it as "adult.
