I've had some problems with this with my own dolls, in using readme.txt files to outline rules. The reason is that the rules change. When I began, I didn't mind it at all if people used my base dolls for their own dolls, so I said in the readme files that all my doll bases were okay for use. Then when some people actually did it, I discovered that I didn't actually like it, in fact it made me annoyed, so I made some templates instead and told people to use those and NOT that of my base dolls. But that caused confusion because while in the readme.txt it said that it was ok to use, but on my website and my newer dolls it said it was not allowed. I had one or two people email me saying that they had gone ahead and made a whole doll out of the base doll from so-and-so, and then went to my webpage and saw that I didn't want them used. Of course I told them it was fine and not to worry about it, to go ahead with the doll. And it seems alot of work to change all the readme files to my dolls o_o; My page is down now though so I guess problem solved or something. ^-^; Plus my older dolls are mostly forgotten anyways.
So if one is going to outline rules in their text documents, they'd better be very very certain that they want those rules for the long run... or just keep it specific to the particular set.
