First, you gotta be equiped with the right tools and tutorials. The IKL is a great place to search. Calezane does have a very comprehensive tutorial on most (all?) aspects of Kiss making, and the BKP has tons of tools for any system you're using. Download a few dolls and look at the cnf files to see how certain effects were accomplished. Sharpen that pencil and work on your drawing already... and you'll be on your way.
