This is based on what I can remember (I've uninstalled all my Kiss making utilities) load your bmp with all the items, convert to 256 colour (there is the option in KCW somewhere). Then save as bmp (this will reduce your bmp to 256 colours) and also save as palette (the produces a 256 colour palette).
