About the transparency color

Hi!

Actually the thing about black as the transparent color was also something I worried about when I read some of the tutorials who also said that black was the transparent color. Looking at the *.cel converters I downloaded (I currently don't recall exactly which one I am using, but it's among those easily reachable; I do recall that they were Japanese), I found that the first color from the palette is used as the transparent color. With that information, I was able to solve that problem for myself (I am using Windows XP). My approach is this:

1. Draw all the graphics in RGB mode in a proper drawing program (I use the GIMP, especially because the layers feature comes in very handy).

2. Then create a new graphic where all cells are displayed next to each other (using COPY or moving layers). Because you will extract the cels later manually, you may want to draw boxes around the cels so as to ensure that grouped cels have the same size and structure. Thanks to the manual extraction, such boxes won't be a problem. The important thing is to have the pixel in the upper left corner to be the color you wish to have for the transparent color.

3. Reduce the graphic's mode from RGB to palette. At least with the GIMP, the program generates the palette starting in the upper left corner, so the first dot provides the first color in the palette which then becomes the transparent color.

4. Save this graphic as a *.BMP.

5. Create the individual *.BMPs by loading that complete set from 4. , then using "CROP" or a similar edit function to isolate an individual would- be cel. Save that isolated cel as a new *.BMP . Make sure that you did not change the graphics mode in between - it has to stay indexed palette; otherwise the palette information would be messed up. With GIMP, for instance, make sure to use CROP, do not use "paste as new" or something, because that would result in a different palette. As I said in 2., having boxes around the cels can be very helpful; just make sure you don't include them in the cels

6. Repeat step 5 for each cel

7. Convert the *.BMPs. Normally, that should provide the desired results.

I know, this is a rather lengthy description, but hopefully, it will be helpful.

I can't give you much help on the *.wav file. It should be something with the FKISS codes, probably level 2 or 3, but I am not sure about the details, so I guess you need to read the information about them given on the PlayFKiss homepage:

Anyway, good luck with your project.
