Lost Kiss Doll

by (no login)

Please help, I lost a kiss doll. I've been scouring the net for a kiss doll called POP. I can't find it anywhere. It's about a pop group with three girls that broke up. I think one of them was called Zoe, another one I think was called Phoebe and i'm not sure what the third was called maybe Erica. I don't remember the artist who created it. If anyone know where I can find this doll please let me know. Thanks so svery much.

That sounds like Sass by Katie Bailey. Unfortunetly, I can't seem to find her website. Sorry.

I used to have that doll... i remember it cause I had it when i was running winkiss, and half the dolls i downloaded i got rid of because of the fact that winkiss sucked.

Sass

by (no login)

Yes, Sass. I got it from the artist (Katie Bailey) website a while ago. I was deleting some kiss dolls and I accidentally deleted it. My daughter liked it and it's suitable for her. She want's me to get it back, unfortunately the artist did not distribute her dolls to OtakuWorld and her website is no longer up.

Hi! and Beginner's question about lzh/lha

by Deathworks (no login)

Hi!

I have just recently come across KISS and am right now experimenting a little bit trying to create a doll myself. (Okay, I confess that the first thing I did was to search the link lists in order to find all the cute dolls others have already created.)

When I did a little test run (well, at least "she" kind of looked like a girl ), I found that my packers would insist on saving the package as *.LHA. I saw some information on the internet about *.LZH being the DOS counter- part of *.LHA or something like that, but I am not sure what to make of that. The *.LHA file created did work fine with Chad Randall's "PlayFKiSS 0.83b beta" running under Windows XP, so I am wondering about whether *.LHA would be a legitimate alternative to *.LZH .

Please don't get your hopes high; my drawing skills are currently at upper mediocre, I would guess, and I am doing several things at the same time switching from project to project based on my mood when I wake up (I am too much of a jack- of- all- trades, I am afraid). So, it may very well take ages before I got a doll that can be distributed - and even then my tastes might be a bit peculiar (^_^;;

Still, I would be really appreciate it if someone could explain these technical aspects.

Deathworks

P.S.: Please don't worry too much about my pen name - it has some philosophical/political background not relevant for my interest in drawing (^_^;;

LHA/LZH

by (no login)

It's not particularly mysterious. LHA is an .exe, an old DOS compression prog at one time favored in Asia. LZH is the extension the archive files created using LHA get. Older archive-ware needed to be introduced to lha.exe before they could run it to create .lzh's; many newer ones know it already. If your archive util can create .lzh's then it already has what it needs from lha & you needn't bother w/ the stand-alone prog (& if you do, it's tiny by modern standards & easily found).

by Deathworks (no login)

Hi!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am still not sure about the file extension thing (my programs insist on saving *.lha when I originally called the archive *.lzh), but now I think I should first try and get something done. It may sound as if this thread was all for naught, but it has helped me. So I am very thankful.

If you tell us what OpSys you're using we might be able to clear up the remaining confusion. Are you certain you're looking at actual 8-dot-3 file extensions & not properties? Afaik there is no such thing as a ".lha".

hasty response

by AO (no login)

Mea culpa. I see from your other post that you're on XP. Have you set it to default view file extensions? Normally it will not show these in WinEx. What archive-ware are you using? To illustrate my otehr comment, earlier vers of WinZip needed to have the actual DOS prog LHA.exe introduced into one of its directories but the most recent vers already knows how to handle LHA's & will correctly give them .lzh extension (as the default).

Problem solved, it seems

by Deathworks (no login)

Hi!

Thank you for your effort. Fortunately, the problem seems to have been solved. For illustration purposes, I wanted to redo the packaging and upload that early alpha version so someone in the know could check whether the file would do. When I originally collected the tools needed to do the dolls, I also got a few freeware packers from the internet, since I wasn't sure about the .lzh thing. I thought I had checked with all of the programs before and always got the *.lha extension, but when I redid the packaging now, IZArc accepted and kept the .lzh extension. So, thanks again, it seems as if the problem is solved.

Having been such a hazzle, I thought I might as well upload that alpha version, maybe for people to get a hint of what my style kind of looks like. But as I said, this was just a quick and dirty alpha version, with only a crude, messed- up design (outlines and colors often have space between them or overlap too much) and there are only the clothes she is wearing (so it is an undress doll rather a dress- up doll at the moment). To make matters worse, its activation takes far too long considering how little there really is to it (I have a hunch that it is something in the FKISS codes, actually, there is a main suspect (stillin) which I will investigate in future versions).

Still, if you are interested in those early scribbles, and are an adult (you can completely undress her, so I have to ask minors reading this not to download this doll), please feel free to download the file (13KB) from

http://www.ranjith.org/gts/kiss.html

As I said, please do not complain about the quality, this is just a quick, early alpha version. Right now, I am working on redoing the graphics (most of the body is now finished) and expanding the wardrobe to something deserving that name. Thank you for your understanding.

KiSS Background help

by (no login)

Hello, I've also began construction on my first kiss doll. Its actually to b a present for christmas as well. I wanted to make some of the clothes black, but somehow this is the transparent color.Ive tried other shades but for some reason nothing had worked. Could someone shed some light on this? Is there any way I can change what the trans. color is?

P.S., also I was curious how you execute a wav file from the click of a body part.

Thanks,Molly

About the transparency color

by Deathworks (no login)

Hi!

Actually the thing about black as the transparent color was also something I worried about when I read some of the tutorials who also said that black was the transparent color. Looking at the *.cel converters I downloaded (I currently don't recall exactly which one I am using, but it's among those easily reachable; I do recall that they were Japanese), I found that the first color from the palette is used as the transparent color. With that information, I was able to solve that problem for myself (I am using Windows XP). My approach is this:

1. Draw all the graphics in RGB mode in a proper drawing program (I use the GIMP, especially because the layers feature comes in very handy).

2. Then create a new graphic where all cells are displayed next to each other (using COPY or moving layers). Because you will extract the cels later manually, you may want to draw boxes around the cels so as to ensure that grouped cels have the same size and structure. Thanks to the manual extraction, such boxes won't be a problem. The important thing is to have the pixel in the upper left corner to be the color you wish to have for the transparent color.

3. Reduce the graphic's mode from RGB to palette. At least with the GIMP, the program generates the palette starting in the upper left corner, so the first dot provides the first color in the palette which then becomes the transparent color.

4. Save this graphic as a *.BMP.

5. Create the individual *.BMPs by loading that complete set from 4. , then using "CROP" or a similar edit function to isolate an individual would- be cel. Save that isolated cel as a new *.BMP . Make sure that you did not change the graphics mode in between - it has to stay indexed palette; otherwise the palette information would be messed up. With GIMP, for instance, make sure to use CROP, do not use "paste as new" or something, because that would result in a different palette. As I said in 2., having boxes around the cels can be very helpful; just make sure you don't include them in the cels

6. Repeat step 5 for each cel

7. Convert the *.BMPs. Normally, that should provide the desired results.

I know, this is a rather lengthy description, but hopefully, it will be helpful.

I can't give you much help on the *.wav file. It should be something with the FKISS codes, probably level 2 or 3, but I am not sure about the details, so I guess you need to read the information about them given on the PlayFKiss homepage:

http://www.msen.com/~crandall/playkiss.html

Anyway, good luck with your project.

.wav files

by (no login)

It has been so long since I used one I might be wrong, but I think the fkiss code you want is:

;@press("celname.cel") sound("audio.wav")

or, to use the object # rather than the cel name:

;@press(#15) sound("audio.wav")

And ask yourself the question, is this wav file necessary? Sounds can add something positive to a good set. I've also seen lousy sets which were excuses for huge lame .wav files. [One had about 7 cels, a 2 meg .wav file, and a readme that said, "I've compressed the .wav file until it sounds like crap..." Which left me wondering why the 'artist' bothered wasting our time.]

Help with grouping needed

by (no login)

HELP!!! I am using a converter that makes kiss sets from layered photoshop files. I have my doll in a photoshop file now, but I need to group some of my cells. I need my body cells to all be one object (for instance head, neck, body, right arm, all need to move as one obj.) and I need an entire dress made from multipla cells to move as one object. (top of dres and bottom of dress) If I link the layers in photoshop then I am able to get the cells grouped. The problem is that I can only seem to link one group of layers aat a time. If there is a way to link moltiple layers within photoshop, I would love to know it. I would also like to know how to do it outside of photoshop. This is my first doll, so if my question is stupid, pardon my ignorance

Thanx for any help

You need to edit .cnf

by King in Yellow (no login)

Your question is not stupid. On one level I don't know how to answer it - I don't work with photoshop enough. But I've converted a couple dozen .psd sets to KiSS sets and can tell you that you will be better off editing the .cnf file to group your cels into objects. Artists need to work more directly with .cnfs - they rely too much on software to produce them. It is easier [after you get a little practice] to tweak some of the details with direct editing than to rely on software - some of the software creates glitches for other viewing programs and some creates other problems. Learning to edit will let you do a lot of problem solving in the .cnf without having to redo things in photoshop.

Goes Through Only Once

by (no login)

Gomen, this is probably a silly question, but I can't figure it on my own.
I'm doing a doll whose hair is meant to change lengths when you use the scissors, styles when you use the comb, curl with the curling iron, and dye with the various dye bottles. The dye bottles and curling iron work fine. You can dye or curl her hair to your heart's content, with no problems, but the cutting and styling doesn't work nearly as well. If you use the comb or scissors, the lengths or styles will cycle through once, get back to the beginning, and get stuck there. No matter how much you try afterwards, it won't go through the lengths or styles again.
I know I could just make everything scroll through easily by pressing one style after the other, but she's a "makeover" doll, so I like the action of putting the dye, curling iron, comb, or scissors to her hair to change its appearance. I'd rather keep that if at all possible. The different collide-type commands I use for the dyes and iron just don't seem to work for the other objects.
I'm not sure now if the commands I try to use are the problem, or if I'm causing a problem somehow. But if this is just a stupid question, feel free to slap me around a bit for having asked it.

This could be the problem

by King in Yellow (no login)

Without seeing the .cnf I can't be positive, but I suspect the problem is in the FKiSS coding. I'm not sure whether you are using in/out or collide/apart but my guess is that is where the problem lies.

If you put blonde dye in/collide with hair 'poof' it's blonde and works perfectly.

If you put comb or scissors in/collide to hair it changes to the new style. The new style, however, may also have an in/collide command which is immediately triggered, and the style after that may have one too. At this point you have confused the heck out of viewer and it isn't sure what to do. If that is the problem it can be fixed fairly easily. If that isn't the problem I have no clear idea what to suggest.

Let's See. . .

by (no login)

I've tried both the "in" and "collide" types of commands. I've also tried making different objects to do the clicking with, since I thought maybe the dyes and curls worked because you'd alternate objects (different dye bottles, curling with the iron and straightening it back out with the comb), but apparently that logic was flawed, as it didn't help. If the commands are confused, what will un-confuse them?
Here's part of the dye bottle code:

;@in (#185, #18)
;@ unmap (#18)
;@ map ("hnat.cel")
;
;@in (#190, #18)
;@ unmap (#18)
;@ map ("hbla.cel")
;
;@in (#191, #18)
;@ unmap (#18)
;@ map ("hblu.cel")
;
;@in (#192, #18)
;@ unmap (#18)
;@ map ("hbro.cel")
;
;@in (#193, #18)
;@ unmap (#18)
;@ map ("hpink.cel")
;
;@in (#194, #18)
;@ unmap (#18)
;@ map ("hred.cel")
;
;@in (#195, #18)
;@ unmap (#18)
;@ map ("hyel.cel")

and that works fine.

One version of part of the comb code:

;@in (#187, #1)
;@ unmap (#1)
;@ map (#2)
;
;@in (#187, #2)
;@ unmap (#2)
;@ map (#3)
;
;@in (#187, #3)
;@ unmap (#3)
;@ map (#5)
;
;@in (#187, #4)
;@ unmap (#4)
;@ map (#1)
;
;@in (#187, #5)
;@ unmap (#5)
;@ map (#1)

That one I don't like as much, because you have to re-dye it every time you change the style . Here's a bit of the other version:

;@collide("comb.cel","l1nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l1nat.cel")
;@ map ("l2nat.cel")
;
;@collide("comb.cel","l2nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l2nat.cel")
;@ map ("l3nat.cel")
;
;@collide("comb.cel","l3nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l3nat.cel")
;@ map ("l5nat.cel")
;
;@collide("comb.cel","l4nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l4nat.cel")
;@ map ("l1nat.cel")
;
;@collide("comb.cel","l5nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l5nat.cel")
;@ map ("l1nat.cel")

I've tried doing both the comb and shears the same way. They work fine one time around, get back to the beginning, then get stuck and won't go through again. The curling iron works fine with either kind of command, but I like the "collide" better for it, for the aforementioned reason it keeps the dyes.
What'll un-confuse all this, then?

Quick Fix

by King in Yellow (no login)

Hmm...

I may or may not be able to offer a quick fix. I'm not sure of the level of complexity you have with hair styles and colors. You may need FKiSS3 to do this right - ifmapped commands may be necessary.

But part of the problem is that the collide is going through everything as one thing unmaps and the next maps.
;@collide("comb.cel","l2nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l2nat.cel")
;@ map ("l3nat.cel")
;;@collide("comb.cel","l3nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l3nat.cel")
;@ map ("l5nat.cel") etc. As soon as it triggers the first it triggers the second it triggers the third it triggers the fourth.

That part of it I can offer an easy fix for. Unfortunately you need to make duplicate copies of some cels and rename them. Assign them the same object number. To use comb as the example, and arbitrarily saying 27 is the object #
cel definitions:
#27 comb1.cel
#27 comb2.cel
#27 comb3.cel
#27 comb4.cel
#27 comb5.cel
initialize() commands
unmap(#27) map("comb1.cel")

;@collide("comb1.cel","l1nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l1nat.cel") map ("l2nat.cel")
;@apart("comb1.cel","l2nat.cel") unmap(#27) map("comb2.cel")

;@collide("comb2.cel","l1nat.cel")
;@ unmap ("l2nat.cel") map ("l3nat.cel")
;@apart("comb2.cel","l3nat.cel") unmap(#27) map("comb3.cel")

Again, depending on some other complexities that could be all you need.

Incomplete Question

by King in Yellow (no login)

I have helped a few folk in the past. You omit a lot of helpful material, however.

Where are you stuck in the process?
Kisekae has a number of steps and folk can get stalled at any of them.
First, what platform are you on and what software are you using? If you can't get a certain program to work right you need to find someone who uses that program to explain it to you.
Some folk have trouble with color palettes, and once again the problem is best worked through with someone who knows the programs you are using.
Some folk manage to make cels just fine, but don't know how to write a .cnf. Or some folk can write a basic .cnf but need help with FKiSS coding.

Oh, and depending on where you are stuck and how much you need explained, helping someone through those steps is harder work than making a KiSS doll - so it is not a case of offering 'credit with no work.'

But problems with tutorials goes back forever. Some really fine artists have done some really lousy tutorials. Sometimes the problem is not being able to articulate what they mean well. Often, however, it is a failure to communicate. The beginner sometimes can't even really explain what s/he needs for the older artist to understand. Sometimes it has gotten so automatic for the experienced artist that s/he doesn't even recognize all the steps anymore and leaves out vital information a real beginner would want.

If I can help you I would be happy to do so. But first you need to try and spell out a little more clearly where you are hitting a brick wall.

An example of the problem

by King in Yellow (no login)

You illustrate why there are sometimes problems in asking questions and wording answers.

"I want to try and create a moving image"
That probably means one of two things, but could mean a third.
A. You probably mean something to move on a doll/outfit. [i.e. touch [press] his head and he sticks his finger up his nose] This is done by unmapping some of the cels in initialize() and having the event triggered by some action/timer. The cels for the animation are mapped or unmapped as necessary.
B. But you could mean you want an object to move across the screen. This is accomplished by a series of moveby or moveto commands.
C. In a few of my sets I've experimented with creating the illusion of movement in a stationary cel by cycling through the change palette group command.

If I read your note correctly, and I may not have, the FKiSS commands seem to be the only area you are having trouble with? It is probably the map/unmap sequence you need to work on for animation.

Hi! Help with "lace" overlays,etc

by (no login)

Hi, I'm fairly new to making kiss dolls. I've been using Adobe Illustrator 10 for drawing my dolls and then drawing the cell outlines in MSPaint and taking into the WSVC program after converting the bitmaps to 256 color. However, how can you make your rectangle exactly a one pixel space?? It's driving me nuts! I think I get it soooo precise and it still doesn't work!
Another question is how to make the lace/fishnet patterns... I can't find a way of putting the patterns onto my clothing right. Um, well, any ideas?? I've been trying to get help for weeks and I found this place! Help please!!

You wrote a good specific question, unfortunately I don't use those programs so I can't offer any help.

Once upon a time this, or the ML, would have been the best places to ask your question. Unfortunately the popularity of the OW forums and some problems this board had a couple times has cut the number of people who check this faithfully. You might want to sign up for one or the other place and see if you could get more help there.

I use PaintShop Pro 7.04, but I've also played with D-Pixed, which has all kinds of neat options-- plus it's free! For cel making, I use WCel, although I've fiddled briefly with WSVC. I think what I did with WSVC was just to crop the image down to the appropriate size, then go to Image > Add Borders, and add 1 pixel to each side. I do lace patterns by using the texture tool-- no clue what that equates to in Illustrator.

You might also want to hit the boards at Otakuworld itself, because I'd be willing to bet that someone uses Illustrator, and can answer your questions directly.

What sort of help?

by King in Yellow (no login)

I'm uncertain what sort of help you are asking for.

You might be in need of encouragment. You are to be complimented as someone who has actually made KiSS sets rather than someone who just whines and demands. You even tried something different with one of your sets, for which you are also to be complimented. You will get better if you keep at it. The first dozen or more sets of an artist I won't name were real pieces of junk - probably not as good as what you did at first. She has kept at it and her latest sets are some of the most beautiful to appear on the BKP.

Or, you may be wanting a source for KiSS sets. Do you know the address for the IKL? It has links to virtually all the KiSS home pages out there. Most of the sets at the BKP are also available at artist's home pages. In addition there are literally thousands of sets which don't appear on the BKP. Yes, it is more cumbersome than being able to download new sets from the BKP - but you will get many/most of the sets from the BKP and find other sets as well.

And keep working on your own sets. Keep trying new things. The first few sets are the hardest, keep at it and you will be able to make sets more easily.

Could Someone please HELP ME? I have trouble trying to get the doll to blink!

by (no login)

Hi, I'm a new KISS aritist and I don't know how to get the doll to blink. I know how to make the doll change expressions when clocked on but even when i set the timer for the blinking animation, it doesn't work. Could someone please help me? (The tutorials on the big kiss page didn't help.)

Blinking

by King in Yellow (no login)

As a new KiSS artist you are probably having a "Doh!" problem. When you figure out what you've done wrong you will slap your forehead and wonder how you could have missed it. You have a lot of those in your first dozen dolls or so.

I wasn't quite sure the nature of the blinking problem - finding the blink cel, setting the timer, other?

Possible problems:
Is the cel for the blink layered behind the face?
Do you have the blink and face with the same object # or different? Alignment issues could cause a problem with either system.
If the problem is the timer you need to look at your looping alarm sequence. Actually, why don't you post the code here and I can give it a look.

It is a good idea to find a doll you like the blinking sequence on and cut and paste it into your .cnf. Modify the code as necessary, but it will insure you have a working loop.

Re: Ultrakiss on Mac?

by (no login)

Just for the record, UltraKiSS is a different format from KiSS so, if you're hoping to be able to view KiSS dolls, you may be disappointed. As I understand it, that viewer can display most of the same dolls as French KiSS for the Macintosh but, for anything higher, the UltraKiSS format is different from the KiSS format so it will not work for you.

Well ...

by (no login)

Having had some correspendence with the programmer last week, it looks like he intends to do full (at least as a compatibility option) support for FKiSS up to & including the FKiSS4 spec that was proposed a year & a half ago ... HOWEVER he has his own plans for what he wants to do with the program beyond that, and other things he wants to support for his own purposes.
As such the final version (at the end of the year) should actually be a good viewer, but will do other "non-KiSS" extended support as well, so you wouldn't want to *build* a KiSS set with it (and *that* function is likely to be Share- rather than Free- ware) ...

Yeah, I host some of Wendy's dolls, but you won't find her latest one there.. probably not the one before that, either. I lost track of which ones she has me host and which ones she doesn't.

I do hope that in the future, however, that my site won't be viewed simply as "that site where you can download Wendy's (or in some cases, Gwynn's) dolls for free." I do have content of my own.

PlayFKiSS gives the same error message when the cel file is there but can't be loaded into the program because it's corrupt or incompatible in some way. Try right-clicking the installer & selecting compatibility mode (or if that still has problems, extracting the files manually with WinZip [or whatever] and marking the viewer "compatible" [as above]) ... nothing much is compatible with X-P ...

1. Is there a way to pay for an Otaku World subscription with actual money?

3. Does anyone know of any place on the web besides Otaku World that has the Cowboy Bebop Ed doll?
Thank you.

your answers are on the site FAQs

by . n3koch4n . (no login)

from the otakuworld subscription faq (that i suggest you to read carefully):
http://www.otakuworld.com/subscribe/faq.html
1. How are subscriptions paid for?
As of November 19, 2001, we are using both PayPal and a new service (for us), PayByCash.com. PayPal accepts credit and debit cards and, in the USA, direct access to your bank account. PayPal is also available in over 40 countries.
PayByCash.com has been around for four years and they work with some of the largest online games available, including Ultima Online. PayByCash.com accepts checks and money orders which is why we have partnered with them. It will cost a little more but if you want to pay by check or money order then this is the only way to go.
2. Do you accept money orders or other payments sent to you directly?
Yes, we can accept money orders and checks through PayByCash.com. We cannot handle payments made directly to us.

from the big kiss page submission guidelines (again, read it to know more):
http://otakuworld.com/kiss/guidelines.htm
Free Subscriptions for KiSS Artists
You send in your KiSS doll and we post it to the Big KiSS Page. After one month has passed we check to see how people voted on your KiSS doll and give you free subscription time in proportion to those votes.
Regular KiSS dolls
Otaku Approval Rating Free Subscription Time
60% to 79% of 20 or more votes : One Month
80% to 89% of 20 or more votes : Two Months
90% to 100% of 30 or more votes : Three Months
"Conversion" dolls (dolls made by converting someone else's paper doll from another format to KiSS) and "template" dolls cannot earn free subscription time

hey Dov,

i was wondering if you could help me find an old kiss doll, that i lost a while ago, i'm not sure who it was by or what it was called (that helps) :S any way, it was full of animation and it was kind of like a vidio game, in the first set you had to go buy lollies...i just remembered that there was a girl in the set that liked the main girl, and there were a few dirty scenes that wernt really dirty but it just made it seem that way, i remember what it looks like and how the game was played (for e.g. you had to first but the lollies, then you had to put on your jet pack, and then while you were the it runs out and you have to get the parashoot and then you fall on an island then the islad people lock u up, then the girl who likes the main chahecter comes and helps then she starts liking something then a screen comes up and says if you are not 18... blah blah blah, and then when you go thoru the letters it shows what shes liking and it tunes out to be the lollies that she was liking and when that bits finished something else happens (i cant remember what happens) and then it tells you how you have to register or somethingand the game stops). thats what i remember about it, if you find it let me know PLEASE i really badly want to play the game again:) thank you SOOOOOO much.

so i'f anyone knows anything please please email me: tofae@hotmail.com thankyou SOOO much

Details on set

by (no login)

The set you are looking for was by Unca Bad and based [very nicely] on the Cutie/QT Bunny comic by Joshua Quagmire. Quagmire spelled it more than one way over the years and ended up even having two (or more) versions of the character for that reason.

Off hand I don't remember the exact name of the set, and have to go teach class at the moment. Maybe someone else will fill in details or this may be enough for you to find it.

KFC's are bugging me!

by Tracy (no login)

please help. I'm baffled. I'm trying to make a KiSS doll, and I made my template (3-4 hours of work, and I'm DONE! YAY!!!) and her -first?- hair, along with 3 items of clothing. I conferted my gifs into cels, but when I put the hair up as well as the doll, the hair looks all wacko colorwise, and the backround is black (instead of #00ff00). I have made an image using all of the colors and converted that and used the kfc, but still the the colors are nuts. any help here?

You must make sure that the images which use the same KCF are also using the same palette. Not just the same colors but the same palette. That means that the palette data must be the same in all the images. The palette must contain the exact same colors in the same order. The first color in the palette will be treated as the background color.

Glitter everywhere, yet I still can't stop it!

by (no login)

Doll is 90% done, thank god. One Little problem...

The eyes blink, everything works. But when I select the glitter, it's not blinking with the doll. It still glitters OVER the eyes! It looks ok, but I've never seen anyone with glittery eyeballs before. hehe.

Here is the coding:

;@press("e19.cel")
;@ timer(46, 2500)
;@alarm(46)
;@ map("glitii1.cel") map("gliti1.cel") timer(43, 90)
;@alarm(43)
;@ unmap("glitii1.cel") unmap("gliti1.cel") map("glitii2.cel")
;@ map("gliti2.cel") timer(44, 90)
;@alarm(44)
;@ unmap("glitii2.cel") unmap("gliti2.cel") map("glitii3.cel")
;@ map("gliti3.cel") timer(45, 90)
;@alarm(45)
;@ unmap("glitii3.cel") unmap("gliti3.cel") map("glitii1.cel")
;@ map("gliti1.cel") timer(46, 90)
;@alarm(46)
;@ unmap("glitii1.cel") unmap("gliti1.cel") map("glitii2.cel")
;@ map("gliti2.cel") timer(47, 90)
;@alarm(47)
;@ unmap("glitii2.cel") unmap("gliti2.cel") map("glitii3.cel")
;@ map("gliti3.cel") timer(48, 90)
;@ timer(43, 0) timer(44, 0) timer(45, 0) timer(46, 0) timer(47, 0)
;@alarm(48)
;@ unmap("glitii1.cel") unmap("gliti1.cel") unmap("glitii2.cel")
;@ unmap("gliti2.cel") unmap("glitii3.cel") unmap("gliti3.cel")

Now... 450 is how long the eye is SHUT for, 2500 is how long it is OPEN for. The 90 is for the speed of the glitter (I figured i could get 5 cycles in the time the eyes were shut for... 450 / 9 = 5)

when the eyes open, however, the glitter still glitters, and no matter what i do, and no matter how many timers i stop, i can't get the glitter to stop!

Please help!!

Yecats.

You put in two alarm(46) statements. fix that and this code should work fine.

I would move the line that zeros the timers into alarm(48) to cut down on race conditions( think about some one pressing e19.cel twice in a row) but it's not really needed.

Is there a command i can use?

by (no login)

I want to map the glitter WITH the blinking of the eyes. Is there a command that will map the glitter with the eyelid sequence when the glitter is clicked?

The glitter appears on top of the eyelids.

I used Eric's advise and fixed the sequence... now all i gotta do is get it to repeat. When the glitter is clicked however, the sequence does NOT match up with the blinking.
is there a command like @mapwith(cell) or @follow(cel) or something similar that i can use to map the glitter sequence with the blinking eyelid? Also, if there is a command like that, is there a command to reverse this? when the glitter is pressed, it has to be mapped onto EVERY eyelid, not just one. I'm not sure how this would work.

Thank you Eric for the good help.

If anyone has the answer to THIS question, It would make the doll complete... FINALLY.

Thanks,
Yecats

Re: Is there a command i can use?

by Eric Armstrong (no login)

You can do that kind of thing with fkiss 3 and or 4 but if you don't need to don't. And while I don't really know what you are trying to do I don't think you need to.

You can do it with one loop of animation: open eyes, close eys, glitter, glitter, glitter, repeat.

But I got the impresion that you wanted your doll to just blink most of the time and when the eyes are pressed give one loop of the glitter. If that's so then we have:

start with normal loop:
eyes open, eyes close

then when the eyes pressed:
stop normal loop( zero all its timers)
eyes closed, glitter, glitter
start normal loop

Note that here the glitter is not a loop. If you need to have it loop for longer then you should have two loops, one normal and one glitter, plus two timers whose job it is to switch from one to the other.

There are allso things you can do by having a glitter only loop that starts from the close eyes timer, and having the open eye timer stop that loop. That way you could throw random timers in to the mix and still have the glitter synced with with the closed eye cel.

Re: Is there a command i can use?

by (no login)

Here's something that might work:

Make the eyelashes and eyeballs closer to the front than the glittery eyelid.

So you draw some cels which are just the eyelashes and the part of the eye that is inside the lashes.

Underneath that, you make the face completely smooth as if they didn't have any eyesockets. Put the glittery animation on that layer covering the entire eyelid area.

So it looks something like this...

#1 blink1.cel
#1 blink2.cel
#1 blink3.cel
#1 blink4.cel

#1 glitter1.cel
#1 glitter2.cel
#1 glitter3.cel
#1 glitter4.cel

#1 head.cel

Now you can have one timer cycle for blinking and another timer cycle for glitter and neither timer cycle needs to know about the other one.

FKISS3

by fenoderee (no login)

hello, thanks for answering me,
I've heard about FKISS3 in many places, is chad randall's document "Proposal for FKiss3. Modified 3-21-98" the unique tutorial or explanative document aviable about FKISS3?

do you need extra software to work with FKiss3? or does it "only" consist on the newer FKiss viewers beign able to recognise new commands?

thanks a lot for your advice,
fenoderee

FKiSS3 is supported in the KiSS viewing program but many viewers support it.

I am trying to find FKiss dolls for X-Men, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Star Trek, and Highlander: The Series. Could someone please provide a link to any sites that has them? Thank you for any help.

cnf coding help

by Geneva (no login)

I hope these questions haven't been asked already, but i would really appreciate it if anyone could help me with this, or provide some examples of these codes for me.
The first is collision, I think, where if cell #1 touches cell #2, for example, cell #2 is modified.

I don't know the name for the other code, but i iknow that if you press cell #1(i.e., a shirt) it changes from being under cell #2(pants) to above.

I hope those descriptions made sense and i hope that someone will be able to help me, thanks!

Not exactly sure what you are asking about, but kiss code does not yet have the ability to modify cels, therefore you must create a new cel to replace the one you want modified. For example,

;@ press("shirt1.cel")
;@ unmap("shirt1.cel")
;@ map("shirt2.cel")

where "shirt2.cel" is the cel that goes over the pants. (Actually, you probably wouldn't need to unmap the first cel, but it's sometimes cleaner to not have inactive cels lurking in the background.) The same would be true for any collision action. Check out the tutorials at Otakuworld, or open up a few kiss sets to find examples of collide action.

Help! Complicated problem...

by M. Kaiser (no login)

After a lot of work, I finally finished my first, simple Kiss doll, and posted it on my website. Unfortunately, my friends who have tried downloading it have run into problems. The doll will run perfectly on my viewer, Randall's PlayFKiss 0.83b, but won't open at all in Randall's PlayFKiss 0.81 viewer. Another friend tried his Unix-based viewer, and it won't open the doll either. If I comment out the "infinity.kcf" file, the doll will open, but the colors are wrong on many of the cels, even some which do not use the "infinity.kcf" palette. In addition, there are vertical lines on the left hand sides of some of the cels, lines which are not visible when I open the doll in the O.83 viewer, or when I open the source bitmaps in Photoshop.

Why would the doll work perfectly in one viewer, but incorrectly or not at all in others? If anyone on this board knows what's going wrong and how I can fix it, it would be much appreciated. I'm completely at a loss. If you'd like to look at the files yourself, the doll is available for download at http://pages.sbcglobal.net/michelle.kaiser/Phantasmagoria%20Kisekae.html

Thank you for your help!

You're mixing 256 and 16 colour palettes, and I think that's the problem. You should ideally either try to convert all of your cels to one 256-colour palette or use up to 16 16-colour palettes, but not mix the palette formats.

Doll Completed... now for my next one...

by (no login)

My doll is DONE!!
It's amazing...
No errors (thank god)
Took the glitter out of the eye palette so thats not a problem now.
Eyes blink.
All the FKiSS works perfectly.
The eyes still lag a bit (but i think thats cause of my slow-as machine).

ANYONE WANT TO TEST IT??

I want to make sure it works before i submit it to otakuworld, so if you want it to test, then e-mail me.

Yecats.
