ok... about the letter writing bits being formal... i agree... sometimes i think japs are so tightassed (erm... no offense to any japanese peeps... just an observation) i mean, you're friends! lighten up!
laughs but yeah, i'm actually really going for more of a less formal look coz in my fic, Hana and Aki are really really close friends... ^^ details to be revealed as the damn fic crawls along

now... the thing about the manga timeline and the actual timeline
truth is, i thought that IT did the comic early 1990 when the internet craze was just starting... and we all know how fast the japs are when it comes to technology
but for me, i think letter writing is very personal... depending on a lot on the person's character... and how close you are to the person you are writing to... which is why the letters here are more... 'intimate' i guess... also, i don't see a problem as to me plonking the boys with their age into this time and age rather than putting the timeline of the fic into what it was in the manga
laughs make sense? and as for the smiley faces and expressions thingy... wahahah they're out of the letter... tho i have been using them in my letters for as long as i can remember... even before the internet... of course... i used a circle, two dots and a curved line
