I was feeling in a whimsical mood when I read the joke and really didn't take the time to consider who would be offended.
In the book, "Stranger in a Strange Land" the most profound observation is that all jokes deal in Pain. All humor is derived from pain or humiliation. I do not understand why we find this to be funny, but we do.
The ability to laugh at anything is to not take anything seriously, least of all ourselves.
I thought the joke was hilarious the first time I read it - with Princess Anne as the punchline. Somebody updated it for JR.
Of course there are a myriad of social and political connotations to it, but that is true of any joke, is it not?
If all jokes were banished on the basis of will it offend or not, there would be very few jokes, Someone, somewhere will be offended.
To those who were offended, My apologies. To those who enjoyed it, Perhaps one day I will post another, if permitted.
