The odd thing is that Reno has likely just paid dearly for not trying to spiff up her image (e.g. the failure of her political bid). Conversely, had she attained the office she sought then her looks might have "improved" for that reason alone. When he was in power, Henry Kissenger was voted one of the "world's 10 sexiest men"; certainly this had nothing to do w/ his physical appearance... when informed the poll result, he offered his now-famous, "power is the ultimate aphrodisiac."
My position on name-calling is a bit different. If someone truly is a moron then there's little point in telling them so; there's nothing they can do about it & a wisp of self-awareness might actually exacerbate the situation. Otoh if someone is not a moron yet is acting like one, then telling them *that*, i.e. "you're acting like a moron", could conceivably provoke some improvement.
