I did some yoga-exercises, forward bending, the Cobra, the Plough in combination with hanging from a bar, while doing that(hanging) i try to touch the floor using some force, after that i always had a good (stretch) feeling in my back, but be carefull, don't overdo it. It is possible you are damaging the ligaments in the spinal column, so listen to your body. I did these exercises for a period of eight month's, i still practice yoga and hanging just for my health and to feel a good stretch in my back but not so much as i used to.
My HI also had to do (i quess) with posture improvement, that goes for most ppl, Yoga exercises mostly tend to correct one's posture which leads to HI. Try to perform a Yoga-posture for at least three minutes.
I also practice deadlifting and squatting (not too heavy) but it has no negative impact on my height, so those exercises doesn't make you any shorter, at least not in my case. so SD2002, i hope i answered your question.
