Misinterpretation of the Bible

I have been a member at RHCC for more than a decade and as a "middle-aged" female, I have been exposed to many women's movements...some good, some bad. Ordinarily, I do support the rights of women in society; however, the Bible is ABUNDANTLY clear about the sex of "deacons"...they are male, not female. The Bible is loud and clear that "deacons are the husband of one wife" (the last time I checked, women are not husbands and they don't have wives). How on earth can our elders say anything else? The Bible doesn't dilly-dally around on the subject and I can't for the life of me understand how anyone with reasonable intelligence can't see this. I am personally extremely uncomfortable with these "worldly" changes at RHCC. It was very obvious to me several years ago that a Pentecostal movement is circulating through RHCC -- in fact, a few years ago, Rick preached a sermon where he said that this type of behavior would not be accepted and that these types of worshippers should go elsewhere (paraphrased, but that's what I understood him to say). Coming from another faith up until I was a young adult, I have somewhat of a background on the workings of charismatic movements and the destructive nature in which they come in and take over "big money" churches. I firmly believe that this is what is happening to our beloved church, RHCC. It isn't Satanic, it's just about greed and the desire to change our worship services to fit the Pentecostal idea (just watch some of the Pentecostal groups on television who cry and beg for money -- completely outrageous). These people aren't stupid, they know where the big givers go to church and they are out to force their agendas on us under the guise of "God's will". Anyone who disagrees with them is labeled a heretic -- which is obvious from the other posts on this site. READ YOUR BIBLES!! Women are to be loved and respected and to teach children and other women, but they are NOT pastors, elders or deaconesses!!! If I want to be a part of a hand-clapping, hand-waving, swooning, tongue-speaking, falling out in the aisles, faith-healing side show, I know where to go. I prefer a more humble, respectful worship service. I plan to call Mr. and Mrs. Bobo to express my concerns about this misguided movement that is rippling through our church.

Misinterpretation of the Bible (reply)

February 22 2002, 7:25 AM

I would like to ask this question: How are we to interpret Romans 16:1 which reads "I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant [1] of the church in Cenchrea"? In the NIV, this is what is written. The footnote says "[1] or deaconess". It is my understanding that the NIV was translated (not transliterated) from the Greek. Again in 1 Timothy 3:11 we see the same reference to deconnesses where the word "wives" is footnoted to be "deconesses". In chapter 3 of 1 Timothy we see the passage about deacons needing to be a husband of but one wife that the original message "Misinterpretation of the Bible" refereed to.

My second question is: To what degree is this issue critical to our relationship with Jesus Christ? I can see how Satan can easily use situations like this to distance those new Christians, and especially those that are only beginning to study to become Christians, from their relationship with Jesus Christ.

I guess what I would like to accomplish with this reply is to get people thinking about whether or not debating this issue is worth the potential it has for distancing souls from their relationship with Jesus Christ and, consequently, their salvation. Pray hard and ask God for discernment in this area. Let Him be your guide because, after all, it is His word.

To What purpose?

If you have heard the Elder's explanations (a group of men I HIGHLY respect for their scriptural seeking and honor) and you still have an issue, talking to others won't help...leave this dead-end road before Satan completely destroys your heart.

...........................THE BOOK

What Happened At the Madison Church of Christ?

There are thousands of churches being taken over across America.

This book is only about one of those churches. It's about the Madison Church Of Christ. By studying the methods used here along with the resource references you might be able to inoculate your church. At the very least you will recognize the signs early on.

Many of the current members of the Madison Church of Christ still don't know what happened.
Some never will know! This book is for them as well.

Madison Church of Christ was a 60 year old church. At one time it was one of the largest churches in the US, and the largest Church of Christ.

It thrived for many years on the vision of it's elders and those of it's ministers. Those visions undoubtably came from the the inspired word of Jesus Christ.

At sometime in the last 10 years there was a deliberate plan by a majority of the elders to take the Madison Church of Christ into a more worldly realm.

They used secrecy, covert planning, and outside sources to scheme and to change the format and direction of the Madison Church of Christ.

The Elders knew that the membership would never approve such a plan. Using the tools of the "Community Church Movement"(consultants, books, seminars, meetings, planters, seeders) they slowly started initiating change so it was never noticed by the members until it was too late.....

At the heart of the plan was the fact that old members were going to be driven off so new techniques could be used to go out and reach the unchurched through new "Contemporary Holy Entertainment" methods developed by the "Community Church Movement"

Old members had to be kept on board long enough to get their plans ready, or the funds would not be there to pay for the new building. So by the plans very nature, it had to be secret.

The church had no plan in effect to renew or approve elders. There was never any need. The elders had always been "as approved by God". 10 of the last 15 elders would begin to shed some doubt on that.

The Elders did not even need a majority at first, because some of the elders went along unwittingly.

This edition starts shortly after some of the members begin to smell something strange in January 2001. Later editions may go back and fill in some of the timeline.

To even start to understand whats happening here, you must read the background materials in the first of the book.

This is only the first edition, and not the end. New editions will be printed as needed. To keep abreast of current changes, please visit our web site; http://www.concernedmembers.com/madison

Here is the list of players;

5 Godly Elders
10 Not so Godly Elders
120 "Deacons" (allegiance unknown)
2,800 - 4,000 church "members"
2 "teners" (people who have publicly confessed to have broken all ten commandments)
Unknown number of "sinners" (This is what the 10 elders call us.)
Unknown number of "demons" (Flying everywhere, to many to count)
