Hello Rowena,

Just FYI, there's a heap of us who watched Monkey on ABC growing up. A friend of mine even bought Season 1 - I didn't even know she watched it!!

And yeah I ended up at this site wanting to know more about it too!

Monkey memories

February 6 2004, 4:28 AM

I also grew up in Australia and loved watching Monkey on the ABC. One of the things I most enjoyed was that everyone in our family liked it- including my father who would normally refuse to watch anything other than the news.

I am now living in Japan and married to a Japanese woman. About a month ago we were watching a TV show about past music acts when suddenly the theme from the closing credits of Monkey came on. I asked my wife if she knew the song and the show and she replied that she did. In fact she had special memories of the show as her family used to watch it together every week after going to the public bath.

Happy to hear so much support for such a great series, especially from all the ladies out there.

I think we can all remember the afternoons spent watching the ABC and singing to the theme song of MONKEY.

I'm planning to purchase the entire dvd collection, here some sites for the those that would like to keep a childhood memory alive.

DVD box sets

June 1 2004, 12:00 AM

OK this thread has been going a while but anyway.... whats this $233 a box set?
That's like £90??

Go to Amazon.co.uk, epsidoes 1-13 is £35, and 14-26 (out today) is £30, both sets are £65 - thats quite a bit less than £90 for one set. (ok i don't know about Aus postage but is still must be cheaper)

Enjoy!

:)

FOND MEMORIES

June 16 2004, 8:19 PM

Another Aussie here (melbourne)

like all you guys, i have fond memories from the show and at the age of 10 was that impressed, i ran down to the local karate club and began my "monkey training"

Well, 22 years later and im still in my "monkey training" and not only that but making my living out of it; Im the founder and head instructor of the M.A.C.E Academy, a martial arts and self defence school here in the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne. We have 4 seperate locations and a total combined student base of over 450 students!

So its fair to say that monkey truely changed my life, if it wasnt for him, in all honesty i would not have walked/RAN into that school after that episode.
(the episode where the 3 demons were red, yellow and blue)

Come check out my website, ( www.maceacademy.com.au )
at the start we used to have the monkey intro music without the nuration, but all the kids didnt know what it was so they voted to change it to the karate kid theme.

If you listen to the little "fortune cookie segments" where the narrator cuts in and talks about buda says..., its quiet true, never noticed that as a kid, just enjoyed waiting for monkey to jump on his cloud, pigsy to chase another girl, or Trippytarka to say..
"Monkey...no violance!"

IN closing, i just love that warm little tingle, and that dry little smile im sure all of us have when watching the show.
it made us feel good then, it makes us feel good now...and lets face it, it puts us all in happy thoughts.

and tuffica da buda , the father buda said...
"With our thoughts....we make the world" :)

If any monkey freaks out there want to monkey chat, or even want some FREE KARATE LESSONS email me on maceacademy@optusnet.com.au

MONKEY FOREVER..............
