So....you guys know LOADS about this amazing subject...But where was it filmed in Japan. Does the film set still exist?. Are there any props up for grabs (i.e the egg from the opening sequence..monkeys staff..Tripitakas hat and so on.)
It was filmed in China, mostly, and, to my knowledge, there is no surviving props from the filming, though if there were I would give any amount of money for Monkey's Golden-Clapsed Wishing Staff.
I hear, as a matter of fact,it was filmed in Japan almost all.
Tripitaka and 3 funny guys walked at the skirts of Mt.Fuji,
not at the Silk Road. Chinese scenery was composed.
In 1st series, the cast went on location abroad at only one episode.
It is "The Beginning of Wisdom".
It was filmed at a open set in Hong Kong.
In other episodes the cast acted in a studio set,or went on location to a chinese structure in Tokyo or wild land at the skirts of Mt.Fuji in Sizuoka.
But the staff went to China to film Chinese scenery of the opening
and the ending titleback.
Even the crew's location, it was a topics in Japan in those days.
Japan was in Silk Road boom at that time.
In 2nd series, the cast went to China, the Great Wall of China, etc., to film the opening scenes.
I heard these in MASAAKI SAKAI's interview, etc.
I am a Japanese.
Could I help you?
I hope I help you to see the program more enjoyable!
I hear many location sceans shooted at Ushima-Seidou
(Ushima temple of Confucius) in Ochanomizu in the middle
of Tokyo. Of course it still exists.
Masaaki Sakai said in a TV show he made a guest appearance
that he and Toshiyuki Nishida and Shiroh Kishibe often went
lunch together to a eating house near location place with
that costume.
They sometimes said hello to a car passed be them,
the driver was very surprised (^^).
