I was gonna get a honda a few months ago, but my uncle is giving his RS away for free. I have no clue about Camaros, but i would liek to know as much as i could. My uncle said he dropped a new engine in it in 1997(give or take a year.) What kind of engines were out at that time and what is it stock?
Its an RS Camaro 1987 V6 (sucks...)!
I know its slow, but i want to do as much shit to it as possible (not just free mods, new engine, exhaust, headers, ext).
Reply to me and tell me everything on this car, bcuz this site talks mostly about IROC and Z28, not about RS(Cuz it sucks!)
Thx,
Its not becuase the RS sucks, its because the Z-28 and Iroc are a more popular car amoungst the camaro Fans.
The RS has alot of potential and infact the RS can come with all the same stuff as a Z-28.
The V-6 is a good engine for its time, but verses todays motor you will have to work hard to win. Mods that can be done are the same as mods on a V-8 car.
Headers, port and polished heads, cam, roller rockers, rear end gears, rebuilds. etc.
What can i do to make the interior look more modern?
(such as digitalizing what is not digital and replacing things that have worn out and installing things that have been made recently).
Also, i would like to give it a paint job and i was wondering if i should put racing stripes on it.. How much should would this be so i dont get ripped off.
Paint, well its hard to say you usuasually get what you paid for, if you pay a good price you can go back if there is flaws and complain but if you pay dirt for it you will get what you paid for.
As far as interior, if you want Digital the Berlinettas came with a digital dash if you want to try and find one at junk yard and get one. Theres other quickthings you can do like paint some of the trim on the dash that is black polished aluminum color it sharpens things up. 4th gen seats will fit the car, as well as the console if you want a more rounded look.
I always see import car stores that sell goodies for imports... is thier any stores like that for Camaros.
(store where other companies make parts special for Camaros).
If thier is I would like to know.
I live in Southern California, a bit south of LA.

Hey Gerald, the best bang for your buck would be to swap out the V-6 for at least a 350.you could do so much with them, cheap parts, readily available, and alot faster than a V-6.By the way,no camaro sucks, even the RS,they just need more help. The one good thing about them is that most of the non-Z cars had farely decent gearing,V-6 cars usually came with 3:42 ratio, but a guy can get lucky, mabey 3:73's.who knows.Exaust systems vary as with any car, mine has full 3inch from the hedders back, although pricey,($700-$1000),well worth it.these cars even with a basically stock 350 do go like hell, but if you go with anything bigger than a stock 350,my advice would be to go with a TH-350 or better as the stock TH-200 is a toilet. If you are indeed lucky enough to have 3:73 gears, drop a 350 or mabey if you can find one,a 400SBin it,you will be pleased. And,so you know, stock cast iron manifolds will work as long as you give the old firewall the apropriate few smacks with your trusty ball peen.If you need to hear more,I'll be here, till later,DRIVE HARD!!!
I have a 1991 Camaro RS V8 5speed. I believe the spec is 170hp stock. Why was I under the impression I had over 200? Hmmm. Anyway, I get plenty of passing power, but, I would much rather upgrade to a fully built 350 with edelbrock/holley shit. You can easily get 375Hp or more at the wheels with a fully built 350.
I also could upgrade my 305 stock with new parts, and get up in the 300Hp range. It all boils down to the money.
I have a 1991 RS and it rules. The 305 TBI is lacking but the fact it has 58,000 miles helps a lot. Flomasters, K&N, chip. Thie thing runs great. I never lost to anything made in asia. It may only make 170HP stock but the 270 Ft/lbs of torque help too. Dont bash the RS they rule, especially if they are a 3rd gen.
if ya want your rs to really fly..ya can do what i did...i took out a lone..and i bought a brand new ram jet 350... i didnt have to change really anything..and there is a huge difference from my 305 tbi...you should check it out
6 cyls may suck, but free is free man...I'd take any camaro for free...third generation or not!
I got a hold of a guy who would sell a wrecked RS for 500 dollars, has a 6 in it, but a good one with a 5 speed manual transmission. If you're interested e-mail me.
