Okay first thing is first there is a brand new battery.
For some reason you open the door dome light comes on..Turn the key into on position the dash check engine and seat belt light come on..Turn it into start position and dome and dash lights all shut off and the car doesnt even try and start not a sound from the motor. Its an 85 camaro 2.8l mfi. I cant figure out what the hell could be wrong. I need the car for school. And I dont want to junk it..

First make sure you r in park. The ignition switch is a possibility but they dont go bad that often. i know u said its a new battery but make sure the cables are on tight and there is no corrosion. have someone watch the headlights while you try the ignition if they go dim its a weak battery or bad connections.the next thing is the starter selinoid. you will have to jack up the passenger side to get to it. turn the ignition switch on and arc the post with a screwdriver. wear a glove.
good luck
