It's always there in the back of your mind. The doctors tell you that after 7 years, you're safe, but cancer seems like an epidemic in eastern KY. In my neighborhood there has been a cancer diagnosis in almost every house in the past 10 years. I try to be encouraging to people who are diagnosed, but when you've been through it, it's hard to be realistic and truthful and still be upbeat about it. My next door neighbor just started chemo for nonHodgkin's last week.
