Leave Gerri alone! I don't know her, but I visit this site often. I am originally from KY. I think we need to have a spring cleaning and get rid of the garbage around here. The maggots are getting to the garbage.
I like to have fun too-but geez! Leave other people's men alone and try walking the streets here in Florida. That is probably more of your domain!
Keep coming back! Don't let a few immature persons keep you away.
Run you off this board its the best thing we have to keep connected with the pike county people. Remember we all can't agree with each other all the time. I just ignore the silly things. Yes this Gerri seems to be very nice lady
Gerri and her husband are very nice people. I have known both of them the better part of 10 years and maybe even longer. Please don't let some vile people decide what you are going to do or be. These people are childish and they have only one concern, to mess up our board. Gerri doesn't have to maintain this discussion board, she does because she likes to help others. At the insistance of her brother and myself, she started this forum, and I thank her for doing it.
There are several people that read this forum daily, they never post anything, but they enjoy the comments of others. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch. I, for one, intend to keep using this board. There ain't nobody bad enough to run me off this board.
Hang in there GF and DF, my thoughts and prayers are with you two.
I agree wholeheartedly. I check this board several times each day and can't wait to hear from everyone. Gerri rocks!
In 1997, The "Beetle Bailey" comic strip moved toward political correctness when cartoonist Mort Walker wrote a story in whuch ....
A) Cookie began offering vegetarian meals.
B) Sarge apologized for calling Beetle "dehumanizing" names.
C) After taking sensitivity training, Gen. Halftrack admitted to being "sexist."
The answer is 'C'. Gen. Halftrack went to a training course. When he returned, he apologized to the women in his office.
to the best of my recollection Gen. Halftrack had to go for some sort of sensitivity training, didn't he??
Uh, I say C.
Ms Brandon you seem knowledgeable of the whole political thing. Are you a candidate or just a concerned citizen?
The last elected office I held was in school. I just enjoy current events.
I have a problem and am hoping you will give me some advice. I know this isn't Dear Abby, but I have a dear friend who has a great job. She's 29, pretty, otherwise nice and smart, but she's been having an on-again, off-again affair for 4 years. Hes not married, she is. She has a terrific husband and a child. She knows better, but where this one man is concerned, she cant' seem to tell him no. I don't know what to say to her. She knows it's wrong and she tries to get away from it, but he always comes back and she always gives in. It has caused her grief over the years in one way or another. But I think in some strange way she loves both men and won't give up either one for the other.

WHAT ABOUT THE CHILD. WHAT'S WITH PEOPLE THESE DAYS. THEY ONLY THINK OF THEIR FEELINGS. LET ME TELL YOU THE CHILD IS THE ONE TO SUFFER. I KNOW BEEN THERE DONE THAT. DON'T ANYONE BELEIVE IN THE OLD FASHION MARRIAGE VOWLS ANYMORE. IVE BEEN MARRIED 45 YEARS AND NOT ONCE IN THOSE YEARS HAVE I HAD THE THOUGHT OF SOMEONE ELSE. I JUST WISH IT WOULD LAST 45 MORE. GET WITH IT GIRL DUMP THIS DUDE AND WORK ON YOUR OWN FAMILY
MY FRIEND HAS BEEN MARRIED 9 YEARS HERSELF. SHE IS A VERY GOOD MOTHER. SHE DOESNT PUT THE CHILD IN THE MIDDLE. NOTHING I SAY...AND I'VE SAID IT ALL...SEEMS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
and she HAS put her child's welfare in jeopardy. Who is to say that her hubby won't just up and take the child if he finds out about her affair?? If it's been going on this long is he totally clueless????
I would say ditch the other man. He is using her. If the husband found out, not only does she stand a chance losing her child, but her home and security as well as the other man. Once she gets in trouble....he's (the other man) not going to want her either. Otherwise, he would have been putting pressure on her to leave him before now.
I would hate to be in her situation. I was divorced with a small child and it worked out really well for us, but there wasn't a third party involved....other than the child! I was talking about anothe lover...on either side.
My ex and I were very good friends up until the day he passed away. I still talk very fondly of him. We were better friends than a married couple. I was young and didn't know as much as I thought I did at 17.
I hate to see your friend put herself in a situation to bring so much hurt upon herself, but sadly, that's where she is headed. I do hope you can talk to her....or if she won't listen to you, ask her to seek professional help. There's nothing wrong with it and it does NOT mean that she is crazy!
What do you think about the county attorneys race?
One is just as bad as the other. We don't have much of a choice
I have a hard time voting for ambulance chasers. I guess I will be voting for Keith. I do like his momma.
I also think he is running a little cleaner campaign. Not attacking Greg, just talking about his record. I especially like his commercial featuring the single parent and her daughter. This is a nice touch. Greg can't seem to get anyone else to speak for him. This makes me a little curious about his suitability for office.
That girl in the ad for HKH has been making me nuts
I KNOW her...but for the life of me can't remember her last name..<Maiden name..seems like the first name is Teresa
I spent a lot of time in Howard Keith Hall's family home growing up. His sister Mary Jo and I were really close...
Her maiden name was Little from Long Fork.
SHES A GOOD GIRL TOO, JUST HAD A BUM OF A X HUSBAND
Did anyone catch the last straw vote.....Isn't too hard to figure out which people went out and bought all the newspapers. The way I look at it, the people that have the high figures in the straw vote are the people that are worried about their campaign so they go out and buy as many News Express papers they can to make themselves look like they are a strong candidate. So, in my opinion, the people that have the high numbers must feel they aren't a very strong candidate.
According to sources at the newspapers...those papers were not necessarily paid for. .. that gives you something else to think about.
I want to thank you for that bit of info....That makes it even worse for the newspaper for losing money. I am sure the whole idea of the straw vote is to have a complete sale out of papers. If you have any other info..please post
Hey I heard through the grapevine that Mr Deskins is running then he will resign for health reasons and then guess who the Gov will appoint to office. you got it Donna Damron. Sure hope this is so at least we living here in the county seen progress while she was in and I do mean in office not like the present one. Could someone tell me why Mrs. Gibson never stays in the courthouse or the Fiscal Court meetings. I'd like to see her campaign of what all she's accomplished while being in office. Mrs Damron may come on to people as being high and mighty but she is a pleasant person just an everyday gal like you or me.
GO GETT'M DONNA DAMRON
I think Donna Damron is a fine person. She's funny, smart and most of all she Doesn't take herself too seriously. However I don't think the sheriff issue will go this way.
I believe that the progress made during Donna's administration was due to the fact that we had a local boy in as governor. Giving Donna the credit for that progress would be like giving Karen Gibson credit for the civic center.
This may be true but at least she did work with the Gov and got things for Pike County. Mrs Gibson has got the attitude that she can do it alone and she has learned politcs don't work that way you are in the game or out and looks like she has chosen to be out, and look where it has gotten us. NOWHERE
Karen Gibson did get the civic center and the parking garage. Also all the work on the underground utilities. Give the lady credit!
i BEG YOUR PARDON BUT THE CIVIC CENTER WAS APPROVED UNDER DAMRON AND ALSO PARKING GARAGE. NOW TELL ME SOMETHING ELSE SHES DONE. ASK GLENDIA OVER THE UNDERGROUND UTILITIES AND SHE'LL YOU WHO GOT THAT SURE WASN'T MS GIBSON. BET YOU CAN COUNT ON YOUR FIRST FIVE FINGERS SOMETHING SHE HASN'T DONE BUT STAYED ABSENT AND CAUSED ARGUMENTS AND LAW SUITS. IF IT WASN'T FOR MR GOOD WHICH IS A POOR CHOICE OF A PERSON THE jUDGES OFFICE MIGHT AS WELL BEEN SHUT DOWN
Don't forget about Sara George and her work with Glendia getting the grants for the Renaissance
Committee. If Pikeville/Pike County has a real un-sung hero, it is Sara George! Do you know that she is also working with Elkhorn City trying to assist with funding and grants to get things started there also?
THAT IS EXACTLY WHO I WAS REFERRING TOO. SHE IS A GREAT LADY AND CAN GET IT DONE.
The reason Karen has been unable to get things going has been because of the uncooperative magistrates. As for what she has done, what about the Pike County arts and crafts co-op and the historic Stone project?
OH MY HOW IMPORTANT THESE THINGS ARE. JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WOULD DO WITHOUT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every positive contribution to diversifying this county's economy is important, no matter how trivial you think it may be. The artisans and craftsman I'm sure put more stock in these efforts than the civic center which will mainly create minimum wage jobs. The real point I wish to make is that no one person is responsible for this county's progress in the past few years. Not Donna, or Karen or even Paul.
I agree with you Molly but don't they all want to take credit for things when its election time. Funny isn't it?
Yes, that's exactly right! Pikeville/Pike County is undergoing tremendous growth right now, and everybody wants a little piece of the applause pie. I believe in holding candidates and officials responsible for their actions. However I try not to turn a blind eye to someone's reign of power now matter how much or how little I like them personally. Donna's supporters were so bitter about her defeat by Karen, that they effectively tied Karen's hands. I don't think that reflects on Karen's abilities to govern. She is a woman of great abilities but sadly her term as judge will be known as one of ineffectiveness. Now does that mean that the people should have elected Donna no matter how they felt about her? I strongly say no! The people refused to have her shoved down their throat in spite of her being supported by the governor. This was a valuable lesson both for the governor and for Donna. Do you think he would have reconsidered his black lung legislation unless he realized how unhappy people were with him? He also needs to know that he governs at the pleasure of the people. So even though it made for miserable fiscal court meetings, it was beneficial in the long run.
Molly do you actually think he would have the guts to run for Senate of the United States after what he has done to the miners and compensation. He should know better he worked some of those miners.
I believe that he wants to tackle Mitch. Now the real question is how will the democrats react to this? The gov needs every democratic vote he can muster to beat him. I believe this is the reason he has played up to rich republicans like Leonard Lawson. He has been trying to sway some of the big republican money away from Mitch, but this alone will not put the gov in. He has to get some of the republican money and keep all of the democrat votes. I am and have always been a democrat, I would love to see Mitch beat but I can't help but believe that Paul would be just as bad for the working poor as Mitch. Especially after what he has done for the miners. Now, can I bring myself to vote for Mitch? I don't know, but I sure as heck could refuse to vote for a republican in democratic wool.
she is rude to regular people. she got beat, get over it!
Do you have a problem with society? You need an AA adjustment
I just tell it like it is
No you tell it the way you think it is.
Did she get beat? Yes, she did so that is the WAY IT IS. Get over it!
What about the sherrif's race? Russell Johnson seems to be spending an awful lot of money.
I'd like to know just where this Johnson character is getting his money to spend. He sure don't have it, and besides he should know by know no one beats Fuzzy. Years ago when there was money missing from the sheriff's office and yes they found it in fuzzy's pocket and can you believe the people voted this guy back in. I for one don't really know who to vote for on this one. Do you have any suggestions?
I don't really know, but rumor has it that his father in law or his step father(I can't remember for sure which one they said) was in the mining business and was paying for his race. Russell used to be a deputy and worked with Fuzzy for a long time. I agree with you that Fuzzy will be nearly impossible to beat. Have you seen the post by Jimmy Johnson on the news-express board? He told of a drug raid in Pike county on May 12 that was conducted by the Paintsville police. I don't really know anything about it but I sure would like to.
Russell father is deceased and his father-in -law is also so who ever is funding him sure isn't family he is from a very poor family. I was just wondering. the drug bust you're talking about was at millard. They had the Johnson county cops and Prestonburg cops someway this guy was stopped by police and it then lead to his home at millard where they found drugs. These little bust are nothing they need to go after a few lawyers drs etc in Pikeville that are bringing them in for the little ones to sell
I've heard that same thing about the Lawyers and Drs. Is it true that the only two honest people in Pikeville is Rick Bartley and Larry Webster?
Rick, probably. Larry is a legend in his own mind!!
I know for a fact that Rick Bartley and Larry Webster aren't the only honest people in the county. Several other people are honest. I am sure that we have drs. and lawyers that do things that they shouldn't do but we also have wealthy business people that are doing the same thing as well as people that aren't so fortunate dabbing in the drug business. Being a professional person doesn't automatically make you a drug dealer, dealing in drugs makes you a drug dealer.
Isn't that the christian radio station? My prayers are with the family.
It isn't the Christian station. It is WZLK. His mother, Brenda Osborne taught for years at G F Johnson Elementary School. His aunt Walterene Rutherford currently teaches at Robinson Creek Elementary School. I didn't know Johnny, but he is from a wonderful family.
My ex and I used to play cards with Tom and Lorraine (Johnny's grandparents) and lived at Little Robinson not too far from Kenneth and Brenda. Rene lived next door to her parents.
Anyone heard from Big Man lately? I hope that war stuff is not bothering him much. He has a lot of problems with flashbacks and nightmares. I hope you well old friend.
gosh...I went from being to witch to bitch in just a few minutes. Hey, I'm flattered.
Thanks for the concern about my hubby. Yes, the test that he has taken were okay, but has to have more next week. CCG, you're right, I didn't take my laptop. Miss Fancy, I really wasn't too concerned about a computer, but I will tell you now.....if you think you're woman enough for him.....try it.
It's been tried before and he's come right home and told me who and how it was tried. If you know us that well, you must know where we live, so come on over.
I'm not trying to hide behind anything. Gerri has been a nickname for years.....Gerene is my given name.
That's all I am going to say about the subject....as that is the least of my worries.
I think you put MSSSSSSSSSSSS. Fancy in her place. Why is it about every week recently there is a nut gets their two cents worth in and who cares???? I agree with the other writers, Ms. Fancy your ROCK is awaiting your return!!! Gerri, you take good care of that husband of yours and get him well, because good men are hard to find. I enjoy this site very much, but as with everything good, you always have someone who can't stand seeing people enjoy themselves.
there's an @ss in every crowd.
Yes, I will take good care of DHF....and good men are hard to find.
I'm glad you enjoy the site.......stick around.....I really don't think Miss Fancy Pants will be here very long. The nut every week or so is probably the same one. They only hurt their own self......sure not me, because I know what goes on in my home.
Yea, I thought it was the same poster as before and decided not to even acknowledge them. By the way, my sister in Va. just called and it seems that Grundy is on fire..her husband is with one of the fire depts.
Keep us up to date on the situation in Grundy. They've had so many problems lately.
My sister says the old Linwood theatre and at least one other building burnt.
I saw it on the news this morning. They said 4 buildings were burning last night and that a 5th one had just caught. They stayed throughout the night watching. It was across from the courthouse.
Bristol news here is pretty good about showing local happenings.
I didn't catch the noon news today for an update. Soon as I hear anything....I will let you know.
wanna go crawl back under it?????
Please remember the family of Johnny O Osborne he was a DJ on the 107.5 Radio station in Pikeville. He was killed in an car accident last night. He is the nephew of the Pike County PVA
My prayers are with his family. I heard about this on the radio this morning.
I know the Osborne's and played cards with his grandparents. They are good people and it is a tragic loss.
I just found this surfing through the internet and wanted to say that I knew Johnny since I first started going to WLSI with my dad on Gospel Music Time..soon after Gary Justice bought over the station from Georgia Ward.
WE worked there together until WLSI and WRAU were bought out by Walter May. In which we were all laid off..I remember him working night shift and him leaving me notes telling me good morning. One of which was a Merry Christmas note..Johnny was a kind hearted person that I think was underestimated in his talents of radio broadcasting..
I feel very fortunate to have worked with him through WLSI/ WRAU and in our final Djing years at WZLK...
My father is now back on the air at WLSI up on Peach orchard with his Sunday morning gospel music time. I miss those days..Alot of good people on the radio..
I miss Johnny and my prayers and thoughts will always be with his family and the radio that everyone knew him as Johnny O...he loved Journey..Ill never forget that..
I miss you !
I really like this background!
BTW the newspaper has finally put my column online.
It is listed in the menu as Boldly Going. I hope you enjoy it.
The subjects will vary because my mind rambles and I generally find myself "Boldly Going Nowhere":-)
Diana
and love it! Congratulations....keep up the good work.
BTW, thanks for the compliment on the background. I want to do one of my own pictures just as soon I get caught up a little...get it scanned and lightened some.
Just read your column and its so true, also I never seem to go to the library anymore.
I noticed your column on the web. Is it in the paper version of the paper, too? I usually just read on the web. How often are you writing? Weekly just about does me in! It's hard to think of something interesting to say every single week. And I always wait until the last minute to get it in.
I worked for the paper for quite sometime, in the advertising dept. As a matter of fact, I found out the other day that I had won a first place KPA award for 2002. I didn't even know that anything had been submitted but since I did not leave the paper until March of last year I suppose there were some items to submit to the competition.
I tend to ramble ( as you must have noticed by now) and this is why the Boldly Going is such a good title. I write whatever comes to mind.
The column will be on-going and they will change it whenever they get around to it I suppose. We started putting this into the works months ago and it has just now gone online. I have just finished one that was given the "imprimatur" from my most beloved critic. ![]()
Now..for the Fancy pants...HOW RUDE!!
At least I didn't take my Guestbook off the internet just because I couldn't handle some little comments. You all are just cherries. You aren't real women.
AND WHAT ON EARTH DO YOU THINK YOU ARE. JUST LIKE BEFORE WANTING ATTENTION. THIS IS ALL YOU'LL GET FROM ME

CIA WARNS OF MAJOR TERROR ATTACK
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The CIA has concluded that the United States will be rocked by a major attack from Islamic insurgents.
Officials said U.S. intelligence has assessed that the attack would probably come from Saudi fugitive Osama Bin Laden or his allies. They said the Bin Laden operation would seek to match the suicide attacks on New York and
Washington on Sept. 11.
Such an attack, officials said, is likely to once again target New York or Washington. Over the last two weeks, the FBI, which works with the CIA in the Counter-Terrorist Center, has issued two warnings of terrorist attacks.
The agency said it obtained information that insurgents have targeted banks and shopping malls in northeastern United States.
"Now for the hard truth," CIA Deputy Director for Operation James Pavitt said. "Despite the best efforts of so much of the world, the next terrorist attack -- it's not a question of if, it's a question of when. The threat that we face today from global terrorism is real, it's immediate, and it is
unlike any other we have faced before. I say this from 30 years of experience in an intelligence function."

HAMAS, HIZBULLAH FIND HAVEN IN S. AMERICA
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States asserts that two major Islamic insurgency groups now operate in South America.
U.S. officials said the Palestinian Hamas and the Iranian-backed Hizbullah movements have established operations in the so-called tri-border area. They said Hamas and Hizbullah use the frontier areas shared by Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil as a haven for insurgency, counterfeiting and drug trafficking.
"The tri-border area of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil continues to be a haven for Islamic extremists," Asa Hutchinson, administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, said. "The two major terrorist organizations in the tri-border area are Hizbullah and the Islamic Resistance movement known as Hamas. It is suspected that their illegal activities range from producing counterfeit U.S. currency to smuggling illegal substances through the tri-border area."
The DEA administrator told the House International Relations Committee that Hamas and Hizbullah operate undisturbed in the tri-border area. The official said the situation in that region "highlights the ease with which terrorist organizations can infiltrate and assimilate in other countries and go relatively undetected for an extended period of time."

It's so sad to see such destruction, but it is a reality in this day and time.
That isn't in the Bible. The US isn't even mentioned.
n/m
Noticed you haven't posted in a few days. Hope all is well up on the mountain and that hubby is good. Miss ya.
haven't had alot of time to post much. Been reading kinda late at times. I have had hubby back to dr. Got to run more test next week. I had to play catch up with some of my work today and tomorrow.....as a matter of fact...I'm cooking supper right now with the laptop on the table.
I'll e-mail you probably afterwhile.
Has anyone seen the movie Unfaithful with Richard Gere in it? What did you think of it? I hate to spoil the ending for myself or anyone else, but I have to know...how did the movie end?
when "THE END" appeared on the screen....the credits started rolling up...and everyone got up to leave....isn't that how most movies end????? (Don't spoil the movie for those who might like to go see the ending for themselves)
If anyone knows how the movie ended, I need to know for a reason before I go see it. If anyone doesn't want to know the ending, then they don't have to read the posts. Would someone who's seen it be nice enough to share this information with me?
I'd sure consider being unfaithful with him.
Well, I don't know about that, but it is a nice fantasy!
you said it. heard it ends wrong, whatever that's worth
can you say "temptation"???? I think Richard Gere defines the old adage..."the older the better"...hehehe..cause the older he gets the BETTER he looks....
or "unfaithful"??? Sure the temptation would be there....okay....MAYBE NOT the unfaithful part!! But, of course, I don't figure I will ever know! Ha
He does get better looking with age doesn't he? Actually, I think my husband does too (get better looking with age that is).
A gal just has to have fun....right?
I agree, your hubby is a fine looking man. To tell you the truth, I think he is too much man for you. So move over and let a real woman have at him. Ten minutes with me and he will throw rocks at you.
and just where did you put that broom you flew in on??? Dennis is a fine looking man (you are right on that point) but I sorta think he must be happy at home..been there many years..and Gerri is a great person and a very attractive lady as well...so maybe you better just be "looking and NOT touching".....
witch than a Bitch.
and if you are addressing me, then that would be "MS. BITCH" to you...
why do you hide behind names other than Gerri. everybody knows that it is you.
LOSER.....and if I were you I certainly would reconsider my name "Miss Fancy"...hahaha..bet you had to think on that one a long time or did you have help?? BTW, Gerri's hubby, Dennis (your fantasy man - I only say that because it would only happen "in your dreams")...is having some serious tests done today (probably as we post) and I am positive that Gerri is right there by his side...I am also positive that her laptop would be at home since Dennis is HER priority item...and "Miss Fancy" (and I do use that name loosely)..you don't even want to know my name!
when did we get mean on this site? I didn't mean to get anything started by my innocent question about that movie. i don't like censorship but we can do without picking on Gerri. i like her and think she's very pretty. she certainly has nothing to be worried about and doesn't need to hide behind any pennames. i'm sure when she's back she can stand up for herself. hope Dennis is OK.
Thanks for the concern about Dennis and the compliments. I'm not worried about anything right now but the health of my husband. I'm not trying to hide. As I stated in a post above to Miss Fancy, Gerri is a nickname from years ago. Hey, half the people can't even pronounce my given name correctly...
Some say Bill Deskins, but I hear Randall Good is coming on strong. Did anyone read the comments in the the Appalachian News-Express made by the various candidates seeking the positions of magistrates in District 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Who do you think will get the Democratic nomination for magistrate in those districts?
has beens have an extremely hard time coming back. If I lived there, you could bet your bottom dollar that I'd know more about it and be alot more involved. I haven't talked to my parents and brothers about it.
I heard Randall Good is stepping up a notch but from what I gather, Bill Deskins is still the stronger candidate. As far as the Magistrates race, I live in District one so that is the only race I am familiar with. Jeff Anderson spoke with me and Jerimiah Elswick and his mother spoke with me. I feel Jeff Anderson is the top candidate in that race both in qualifications and dealing with the people. It was a big turn off having jeremiah's mother come with him.
Probably Randall Good..In district 3 the popular candidate seems to be Leo Murphy although I'm undecided.
Jeff Anderson is a good guy, he seems to honestly care about district one. I am like you , I would really think twice about a candidate who has to bring his momma with him.
as soon as they were finished with THE 20 mil.$ East Ridge High School....they were going to start on Belfry HS (an exact replica of ERHS). Also, the man said he saw the plans for the new consolidated Dickenson County High School (ANOTHER BIG CONTROVERSY)!
