Thank you all so much.....

by Gerri

for all the kind words and prayers extended to my family during the loss of my Grandmother. She looked beautiful and looked almost as if she were smiling her sweet smile at us....telling us that she was okay now. Mama had a good life up until the last few months. It has been very hard watching her suffer so much, but she is resting now and best of all, she's not hurting anymore. We will always miss her, but we have great memories to be cherished.

Again, many thanks to all of you, especially "friend". She isn't having the best time right now either and my thoughts are with her as well.....better days are coming my friend.

As many of you know, the forum owner, Haysigal, has spent

by friend

the last several months taking care of her elderly grandmother, Iona Dennis. Mrs. Dennis passed away yesterday. She will be at Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City tonight (visitation at 6 and service at 7) with burial at 11 in the morning. G's grandmother was an elegant and well respected lady and will be sadly missed. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to G and her entire family in their loss. Each of you posters/readers on the board please feel free to leave G a message. While nothing ever takes away the pain in the loss of a loved one, friends and support is needed/appreciated at times such as this.

"Happy Thanksgiving" to all my good ole buds on this board.

by ccg

Let's take time out of our busy schedule & day of cooking and fellowshipping with our friends and families, to thank Him for all those things in our lives that we so very often overlook. To those of you who have lost a loved one or experienced sickness or adverse conditions in your lives this past year, remember that "this, too, shall pass". Embrace those around you & let them know they are loved. Life is tooo short not to! Don't eat too much turkey & save that energy to hit those stores at 6 a.m. Friday morning!!

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving...have gained about 10 pounds since Thursday. We ate 3 different places in about 4 hours and then Friday was my birthday so I had enough sugar to send a rocket to the moon. We went shopping yesterday but slept in and didn't leave till about noon. Spent about a week's pay, but that's OK. We had fun and at least I'm about one-fourth of the way finished with my holiday shopping.

Did anyone else have problems accessing the ANE "Images"

by ccg

column that Shawna writes?? When I click on it it's a totally different article. Hey G, I got to see/talk to John V., Audra, and Ryan yesterday. Selling chances on a gun for KFD. Me & A agree they should sell chances on a diamond ring or side-by-side refrigerator sometime.... I read this site daily BUT reading has been kinda "scarce" here the past couple of months. Somebody...anybody..post us some news on here!! Y'all have a good week-end!!

I check the board regular also. I don't know what's happened to everyone, but I understand Ms. Gerri she doesnt have much time with her granny and hubby being ill. But I think everyone has gone to the other board but personally I liked this one better if we can get our pals back, Just like Big Man now I know he can post every now and then and give us some updates. How's all your family doing?

Your question about the ANE. Yes I do have the problem but hey they are getting terrible down there in Pike County with that paper. They even quit giving senior citizens discounts. Well Ms Gerri and I know about that situation sometime maybe she can tell you how it all came to be with that paper plus the others they bought. Its a terrible situation.

Actually........

by Gerri

I hadn't checked. I've been reading the papers at Mother's house, so haven't had to check on line very much. I haven't been home very long.....hubby is asleep and I needed a diversion other than bills, business, more bad news and the such. But my eyes are about to close....

I appreciate the checking on the boards daily especially by you and Waver. I haven't even gotten to do that myself.....I'm not privvy to the computer like I was and it makes it difficult sometimes.

We were in Lexington on Friday...hubby had an appt. there.......a wasted trip to UK.....other than breakfast, lunch and supper all rolled into one at Applebee's. I ate about half of mine. I was so hungry by that time....I almost didn't care. Having about an hour's worth of sleep and driving that distance, sitting for 2 hours just waiting.....then coming straigt back home.....other than eating and stopping by Mom's to check on my Grandmother......rough trip.

I'm in and out....spending lots of time in KY right now. Things are hard right now with my Grandmother and parents......not to mention home front.

I'll check in as often as I can.

To CCG....Yes, I have some tickets and forms for the deer hunters and have a promise of several wanting in the contest. We have to get that money raised for the kids.

Keep this board going......we can't let everything die and disappear!!!!! LOL

Under Currents

By Shawna Hopkins

October 22, 2004

I’m not a big fan of pets in the house. A few weeks ago when someone I work with told me he had three kittens to give away and asked me if I wanted them, my response was, “Absolutely not.” That’s when I was still thinking clearly.
We have fish in an aquarium, but I pretty much ignore them. My husband takes care of them; I lost interest in them long ago. The last pet we had was one of those tiny turtles that are cute, but not very cuddly nor much fun to have.
After hearing more and more accounts of people I know finding snakes in their house, though, I started considering some kind of snake deterrent. When my brother-in-law, Jimmy killed a two-foot long copperhead in his utility room, I guess I panicked. Since nobody was offering to give away a mongoose I told the person at work, “I’ve changed my mind. I’ll take the kittens.”
I don’t know what I was thinking. Apparently, in his desperation to unload them, he’d coached them to look cute and to be sweet and innocent for at least two days. My four-year old claimed the fat, yellow one right away and named him “Garfield.”
“He will dance and wear sunglasses,” she told me. I laughed and told her that only cats on TV can do tricks like that. Of course, I underestimated how clever our kittens would turn out to be.
My older daughter picked the other male kitten and named him, “Joel.” He would turn out to be the sweetest of the three. And that left me with the smallest, a girl named “Amy Lee.” I was encouraged that she was a natural hunter, wasn’t really fond of commercial kitten food, and seemed to be scoping the house for any signs of potential prey. Happily, she found none, and resorted to the dish for food.
My plans were to keep the kittens, cute as they may be, closed inside Savannah’s room. Except for when we were home and wanting to play with them, I was going to confine them, their mess, and their smells to one area of the house.
There’s a reason cats are portrayed on TV as being feisty and at least as smart as we are. At first, I was just shutting the door to Savannah’s room, but soon they learned they could squeeze under. So then, we placed two dollhouses in front of the door. It was downright funny to see them frolicking in those dollhouses, rolling across tiny chairs, just before popping out the dollhouse doors and escaping.
My next solution was to roll up a towel and stuff under the bedroom door. It took them a few hours, but they figured out how to pull the towel through and make their escape. And it would have been cute when they came galloping across the kitchen floor, if Amy Lee hadn’t gone and spoiled the fun for everybody. I had just gotten home late from night class when she jumped on my bed and made herself at home in more ways than one on my comforter.
Back the three of them went into Savannah’s room. Closing the door behind them, I wondered if snakes are as messy as kittens. Stripping the bed and putting everything into the washing machine, I told my husband we were going to have to figure another way to keep them in their room. He came up with the idea of standing up picture frames against the door and pushing the dollhouses against them so they can’t be knocked over. “That will hold them,” he said, confidently.
Somehow, I’m not so sure. “You wait,” I told him. “Give them a few days in Savannah’s room and they’ll find a way to fashion tools out of her Barbie accessories. They’ll be cutting through those picture frames with little pink saws.”
I can just see them racing down the hallway behind the wheel of Savannah’s Barbie Volkswagen making their get away. Don’t you think that’d be so adorable? If so, can I interest you in three of the world’s cutest kittens?
