Firstly a.h,
You, as with most Huntly supporters who are regulars on this forum, are generally on the ball with your comments & observations. Yes a.h. I totally agree with you regarding the tactics of a lone striker up front. I am all for at least two main strikers, especially at home games. We got the result though & that is what matters at the end of the day, even though we might not always be able to figure out the managers tactics ! Credit to the whole team who I thought played some good attractive football against a stuffy Rothes side, especially considering the difficult playing surface that both teams had to overcome. At least we didn’t come unstuck against them as per last season. It is also good to see the manager keep with the attacking preference when he changes things in the second half. Maybe he has seen this ‘Get Stainer On’ banner that a couple of fans have been displaying at various games. The banner certainly has proved an interesting topic of conversation, apparently even getting a mention in the Press & Journal recently.
Another disappointing crowd again at Christie Park. I thought that fans would be coming out of the woodwork considering our form & league position. Even if it was just an excuse to dodge out of the Christmas shopping !
Secondly, The Eejit.
Yet another outburst on Saturday from the other football fan in a Huntly shirt. Yes, you know who you are. On behalf of all level headed Huntly fans, I apologise to the mannie in question, who was subject to one of this eejits outbursts during the second half. Maybe this individual can come on this forum & apologise directly, whilst also explaining his actions which showed no respect & were bang out of order. I established later that the mannie on the receiving end of this outburst was at the match supporting Huntly FC.
The mannie is a well known & respected figure in football circles, having been involved predominantly with amateur football in Aberdeenshire for over forty years. Also over that period, he has attended numerous Huntly games, supporting the team. But those facts should not be significant. What is significant, is that here we have a supporter who was quietly minding his own business, trying to enjoy a game of football like the rest of us, when this eejit, who was totally unprovoked, approached him in an aggressive manner, shouting foul mouthed misguided accusations. What is also significant is that this is far from being an isolated incident involving this eejit. How long will it take before the Huntly stewards take this eejit to task ? His passion & enthusiasm for the game cannot be questioned, but surely it can surely be channelled in a more positive & responsible way.
Us Huntly fans in the ‘Howling Shed’ have to endure his constant whining & criticism of officials, opposing players & their supporters not only week in, week out, but year in, year out. If all the hot air he produces could be harnessed, you could probably power the ground floodlights & more, thus saving the club thousands of pounds. The day will surely come when a supporter in this eejit’s firing line will not be as mild mannered as this mannie (he didn’t want to make a fuss of the incident) This will result in him missing a good few Huntly matches, due to not engaging his brain before opening his big mouth.
A final word & thank you to Grant Turner & any others who have made for a much improved website. Keep up the good work.

I'm sorry but I don't know his name, though I've heard from some fans that he is referred to as Gladys (because he acts like an old wifie)
A beter bet for his name would be a.h. as they stand together at the games.

Mr Parker, Mchairybaas
cannot possibly comment on this one Im afraid.
I dont know
1) what was said
2) why it was said
3) what it had to do with the game
but yes, I do know who Mr Parker is talking about & also know he reads this forum so he can comment, if he so desires, himself.
Im sure he'd actually rather speak to you in person at a game than through this board.
I'll leave it at that.

| a.h (no login) | Here's the apology | November 19 2004, 8:46 PM |
I was in conversation with the "eejit" today who I can now identify as Mr Alan Gordon.
He wishes to send his apologies to the man from the amateurs and Mr Parker who has clearly got upset about this incident.
He apologises for being unable to reply personally, but relies on his local Library computer to access this board, which has just seen changes to it's security settings which now disallow Mr Gordon from accessing this board.

The ‘Amateurs Mannie’, who himself doesn’t always get access to a computer, has accepted Alan’s apology regarding his behaviour, thank you very much. However, it would have been nice to hear Alan’s explanation for them. I was not in the firing line of Alan’s comments, so as they were not directed at me, I was not personally upset by them. So there is no need to apologise to me, but thank you all the same.
Ironically, I tend to agree with most of Alan’s match comments, but personally just get tired with his outbursts at times. They cannot be good for his blood pressure !
I suppose I could always move out of earshot, if that is possible & still be able to see the game !
Anyway, here’s hoping Alan gets his access to the Huntly website restored in the local library & here’s to a Huntly win against Peterhead on Saturday !

Hooray! Access to the board at last.
I wish to now apologise personally for any upset caused by my latest "outburst" to Mr Parker and his companion from the amateurs.
This was simply heat of the moment stuff from me, at the time you might recall, our players were getting kicked all over the park by a very dirty Rothes side, and I just lost it temporarily I'm afraid (not for the first time I might add)your quite right Mr Parker, I must try not to have these outbursts and they certainly don't happen every week despite what some might think.
I only accused these guys of being Rothes fans (certainly a bit aggressively, I accept), because I mis-heard a remark about a particular foul on one of our guys that was made and I didn't recognise them as being Huntly fans.
I have toyed with the idea of staying away from games for a bit, since this happened, I still don't know what to do now, supporting Huntly home and away for the past 22 years has become something of a habit for me and would not be easy to break I can assure you.
Anyway, please accept my sincere apologies once again.

So, a mystery solved. It was a case of mistaken identity with two ‘Rothes’ fans !
I totally agree that Rothes were over physical & committed persistent fouls on our ‘star’ players throughout the game. This as we know, is a testament to the skills of these players such as Gary McGowan, that an opposing team resorts to such tactics. We are all in agreement that referees should be doing more to protect these type of players. This must leave even the most mild mannered fan want to blow his top !
Anyway, good to see you have access to the board again. Stick in there Alan, don’t even think of staying away from the games. 22 years as a Huntly supporter is something to be proud of. Huntly need more support not less, as reflected in the dwindling gates over the last few years. Hopefully, a fair few supporters will come out of the woodwork on Saturday & thereafter stay loyal to a club who look like going places again. Even if the result doesn’t go our way against the Blue Toon, we have done tremendously well this season & deserve more support.
I appreciate it might not be everyone’s ‘bag’, but I’m sure it would be a lift for the players if all Huntly fans could be a bit more vocal in their support. Every little helps, especially when there is only a hundred or so in the ground. It is amazing how individuals can raise their game if given that extra encouragement. Unfortunately I can’t make the Blue Toon game due to work commitments, so that will be one voice less.

That final paragraph there Mr Parker is one of the best lines ever written on this board.
Hope you make the second round - aparently (well, Ive looked at their equivalent of this, the East Fife fans already want to play us - because none of them have visited our ground! | |
