I am trying to find John Robertson who played for Huntly sometime in the 60/70's anyone know where he is now and how to contact him? NO I do not want to add him to our playing squad, but I do have a bit of surprising and good news for him. So can anyone put me in touch with him?

Hi Robin,
One guys name came to my mind and that is Jimmy Roy but not sure of the era that he played in he was centre half.
Maybe some of the older supporters could help out ie Kiddie Ross,Frankie Smith.even Alec Bremner would probably be able to help with finding this player.

Thanks for this, Moose, a search in the Huntly Express has turned up two with the initials JR who were playing in 1952-the guy you mention and a J Rough-will keep at it, but anyone got any other ideas?

Must learn to spell Missing-actually my fingers just got crossed wires!!!!

So in 1985 this man was walking his dog along the Ayr Prestwick Road when he sees a medal at the side of the road. One one side of the medal, he reads Highland Leagure, Morganti Cup season 1095 52 Huntly FC and on the other side there are the initials JR. He kept it as a good luck charm, but last week he sent it in to us.

After some research, we are sure we know who JR is, just a bit more checking and we hope to reunite him with the medal very soon.

Robin,
If you are at the game today definately speak with Kiddie Ross/Frankie Smith
they are usually in the Social club about 2"o clock until kick off and also after the game sitting with John Troup and Judy. They will definately know the (JR) player that you are looking for.

The Moose.

The player who lost the medal is Jimmy Roy, so I shall be handing it over this week. Thanks all for your help, a number of you suggested his name.

the following was from the Highland League 100 Book and on the history section:

They went on to repeat that feat in 1951 when Jock Massie & Abby Rough had starring roles as Huntly beat Forres Mechanics 4-1 in front of 6800 fans. Goals came from Murray (3) and Carroll.
Line-Up: Duguid, McLeod, Rough, Massie, Roy, Robertson, Cowie, Paterson, Carroll, Martin, Murray

Thanks Grant for this-did the Robertson player have a first name beginning with a J? If so, then we may have another contender for the medal.

Frank Smith, Huntly FC tea boy, was speaking about a Jackie Robertson on Saturday who he believes stays/stayed in Ayrshire. He was going to tell the committee this.

Robin, I can't understand the confusion here Jim McGregor asked me at the Nairn game if I was related to Jackie Robertson as he was pretty sure he was the player in question. Have a word with Jim.

Grant, the piece you quote refers to winning in 1951-but the medal refers to winning the Morganti cup in the 1951-52 season-anyone any idea what the Morganti cup means? The wording on the medal is Highland League Morganti Cup, not just the Highland League. Also, your piece refers to 1951-would that be the 1950/51 season or the one on the medal 1951-52 season?

Morganti League Cup was as far as I know named after the sponsor Morganti from Nairn
in the Bill McAllister's 'Highland 100' Bill names the triumphant Huntly side after a piece about the Highland League AGM in June 1951 but he doesnt actually give the date however in this year's Highland League handbook it states that the 50/51 winners were Clach with the 51/52 winners being Huntly. Huntly previously won it in 48/49

Was the League Cup not played at the beginning of the season at some time.
Could mean 1951 actually refers to 1951/52

I still call the Highland League Cup the Morganti Cup, as it is still the same trophy that is used.

Why the press stopped calling it this Im unsure, but Morganti was never a sponsor - it's his cup til the day its not used!
