Good article by Dave Edwards in todays P & J about our former manager John Fitzpatrick - one quote about his former team is 'that included Eddie Copland, who had the greatest spirit I've ever seen on a football field' - how true. He also mentions Frank Krukowski, Willie Lawson and Colin Walker and of course Forbes Shand who took him to Christie Park.

Hi Folks, Just to follow on from the article that Kathleen has mentioned, It was John Fitzpatrick that did indeed put the foundations down in the mid-eighties which undoubtedly led to our success later on. The team I'm thinking about is the one that won the Aberdeenshire Cup against Deveronvale in 1986. This was a fantastic achievement at the time because Huntly hadn't won anything at all for a long time before that.

I was 15 or 16 at the time and went to all the home games then (no transport to away ones back then!) along with my usual sidekick Bruce! So I can still remember that team quite vividly. Not only the players that Kathleen mentioned, but they had one of the best Keepers at the time in former Middlesborough man Neil Connell, who I think went away to play in South Africa, also Mitch Bavidge, Bobby Street, Dave Paterson, Ally Brebner (a brilliant winger!), Jim Watson (a fantastic Left Back!), and of course local player Graham Nicol, who scored quite a lot of goals for Huntly.

John's Assistant Manager then was Tommy Wilson (Senior), The Locos and Ex-Huntly players Dad!

Great Memories Indeed.

Alan G.
