I was with Kevin yesterday and am delighted to tell you he is coming back to Huntly FC. This time, with the full agreement of Dave, he is going to come up on a Saturday when we have a home game and join Dave throughout the day-helping with pre-match coaching and warm up, team tactics, plus the half time talk and post match windup. He will also join our sponsors for the day in the stand to watch the match, he was happy to join Dave on the touchline but Highland League regulations do not permit this. The date is still to be chosen.
Whilst I was with him, he presented me with 56 footballs-one for each year of his lie-with the instruction that they are to be for the youth teams and their training-he watched them train when he was up and felt that there were not enough footballs.
as a spin off idea as no dates for this or finals plans have been put in place, how about having a "Kevin Keegan Sevens" in the morning of that day and invite your local 13s oponents? Kevin keegan to present the prizes.
Wouldnt have to start with him being there, just as long as hes there late morning or whatever to present the prizes?
If theres na way of opening it up then it would be great to see other groups competing, but I think youd get the best response from the 13s teams, purely down to the age of the kids (i.e the older you get the less appealing 7 a side becomes)
Great to hear that Kevin Keegan is returning to Huntly as he promised. Unusually I find myself agreeing with AH !! Think the idea of a 7s event would be good. However as we also have an under 14s side as well, would have to include them. Hope we can get something organised once we have a date.
Unfortunately Scotty the Under 16s will be playing themselves on Saturdays next season, so they may be ruled out if away from home.
Most likely dates for the Kevin Keegan Sevens is 8th September when we have a game at Christie Park in the afternoon against Deveronvale. Otherwise October 6th or 20th.
SAM - Im a wee bit unsure on your point. Yes Kevin is coming up that day to witness the actual team, but let us not forget Kevin's main purpose of coming up was to help with the youth project, and while he is here (again, which is great) lets showcase our local players.
Not sure about clashing with school holidays, but I do know my lot are in two tournaments in the next three weeks so it would not be the only school holiday tournament.
if you open it up to more than one age group it'll take alot longer to get finished and if keegans helping the first team are they going to kick off at supper time so that he can present prizes to two or three age groups after the tournament has finished at the back of four?
Kevin is coming up to be with Dave and first team, he has already been up to present trophies to young teams and managers.
Lets concentrate our efforts on what he has alrrady said he wants to do and kick this idea of any more presentations etc into touch.
