Huntly 14s lost tonight in the Eddie Mannell cup game played under lights(big candles} at Portsoy ,going down 8-7 in very exciting pen shoot out.Credit to both teams who despite heavy pitch played a cracker of a cup tie in a good sporting manner with both giving all ,right to bitter end of pens.There was a lot of tired legs by the end.The ref who had a good game commented on great commitment of both teams ,a credit to there coaches & clubs. A swirling cold wind & heavy surface met the teams,with Vale starting strongly with strong running of no 10 Cooper causing the Huntly defence probs.Vale had all play but were unable to test Calum in goals.The game was keenly contested & it was no suprise when vale scored from a superb save from Calum that fell kindly to the Vale striker who netted the rebound.Unable to find the killer 2nd,Huntly crept back into game with strong running of Gary Morrison & Cammie Christie a feature,this resulted in Ewan Gordon scoring for Huntly with a well taken shot from just inside box.Half time 1-1.Both teams had chances to score but with injuries ,cramp & being knackered creeping in aided by man of match Calum Whyte performing fine saves the 70 mins ende 1-1.10 mins each way of extra time with chances for both teams not converted ended level.So to pens,great way to decide games if you win,not if you get beat.Both teams missed early pens & score at 5 each was only 2 converted each team,sudden death resulted in D/vale keeping there composure during nailbiting finish to win 8/7,good luck to the 1st division side in next round.Cannot speak highly enough of my 14 players despite the result,they all gave 100% ,a lot o tired gadgies the day. Next game v LONGSIDE away on sunday ONWARD
