todays game

February 23 2008, 7:04 PM

thought the team played very well today,a more solid performance, possibly the dropping magoo to the bench gave that solidity needed at a place like the broch.Having said that thought that they were very poor and didn`t adjust to the conditions like us.playing two up front bold move but did help with possession up front which took the pressure off of the back four, usually one up front if the player did not get the ball it was going to come back straight away.thought dorrit, guildy and grayser had very good games today but overall a much better team game.well done to everyone involved.

Thought the 3rd goal was a clear own goal not Bruce, you must o had a different view of it, compared to all of us Neepo!

Broch v Huntly

February 23 2008, 11:02 PM

Great resulkt

Well done lads for what i think for most of us was a turn up with current form of both teams.

Lets hope the lads take confidence from this.

I hope that McGoo on the bench and not used was purely tactical and Gary comes back strong with a weeks rest.

if yesterday is anything to go by,i would keep magoo on the bench team looked far more solid yesterday, but he would be ideal to come on late to terrorise defenses, even against fort william would start with the same team.

Much Much Better.
Its hard to see how Broch thrashed Locos and Keith on this performance.
Scoring in the first minute made a big difference.
The upside of the Loco defections is Craig Dorrat's run in the first team.
He really has come on and his finishing yesterday was clinical.
Well done Craig....keep it up !!

Broch v Huntly

February 24 2008, 7:51 PM

Well Grant, it looks like you had on the rose-tinted Bruce Cormie glasses again. You have credited Cormie with the third goal against Fraserburgh when it was clearly an own goal. Your report on the Nairn game in the Huntly Express of Feb 15th stated that "Cormie netted his twelfth of the season, drilling in from 18 yards." Three inches below that is a photograph of the goal with Cormie standing virtually on the SIX yard line. Ooops!!!! Never mind, as long as your favourite player gets a good mention each week, who cares about the accuracy of the reporting?

Well obviously by your tone you have a problem with my reporting (which in itself has given your disguise away) however myself and other reporters both from the Broch and elsewhere gave the goal to Bruce as from where we were it looked as though he got the last touch. The player also confirmed to me after the game that is was his 13th goal. However I will contact everyone concerned and make sure his name is taken off any score sheet and the lad is denied his goal. Do you want me to recheck with fellow reporters that he scored up at Nairn as well ?
I will however make sure I bring my measuring tape to the Fort game.
I think you need to look and see which Huntly FC player Huntlyfc.co.uk sponsor.

Cheers
Grant

I can confirm that Grant had taken his tea cosy off when Cormie scored.
It wasna covering his eyes.
The 3rd showing of the TV replay confirmed that Cormie got the last touch.
So youre wrong Gulliver.
Suggest you watch Broch Sports HD channel 1 to confirm.

I know Im not Grants favourite person when it coems to own goals, but im sorry there is no question whatsoever that that third goal belongs to derek milne.

The players reaction alone told you that, that our our mass chuckle at it when it hit the net. I dont think any of us can believe it even now.

How Bruce has been "credited" with it in the first place is even more baffling.

RE: Own Goal

February 26 2008, 8:26 AM

Any good striker will try to claim an own goal they were anywhere near- happens all the time in the Premiership...except they have the benefit of 29 camera angles to see who did actually get the last touch

If Bruce was quick enough to get in there first and claim the goal then fair play to him- strikers instinct

If not, and the goal was just credited to him as he was close to the action, big deal- you have a striker that gets a wee confidence/motivational boost or whatever for "appearing" to have scored another goal.....

I can't figure out how Huntly as a Football Club loose out from a mistake like this.

This thread should have read:

"3rd Goal was an own goal- not scored by Cormie"

RE: "Oops, oh well- won't happen again! I'll check next time."

Lighten up guys!

How does a player get a confidence/motivational boost by being credited with a goal he did not score? Surely it is false praise for achieving nothing. You also say that a goal should be credited to a player because he was close to the action. Does this involve him touching the ball at all or is that not important? This has nothing to do with the Cormie / own goal thing in particular but is more a point of general interest.

RE: Hamish

If you knew anything about football you will know that Strikers play on confidence.

And to answer your question.........."it just does"

If you feel strongly enough to question- ask him, I bet he thought it was a right laff and was buzzing around training this week.

The point of my comment was to end a thread that looked as though it was turning into a pi55ing contest to the detrement of the club- guys at my work come in here to laugh at these petty arguments over the forum, even some who aren't interested in football! I'm ashamed I'm even getting involved...

Light hearted banter about the games/performances or the match reports (as this should be- we all know that amateur reporters exagerate, happens in all walks of life: IT -->IS --> FUNNY!!!) I can get on board with, also with serious comments and opinions on team selection/performances etc. But having a proper go at somebody, seriously accusing folk of having favouritism towards players over small details....

...give me a break

Please feel free to continue this pointless excercise of condeming your reporter however don't forget the reason I posted my 1st comment on here was that I got annoyed coming onto the forum looking for some interesting team news/reports/management opinions and finding Huntly supporters moaning between themselves about an insignificant point in a day that should be remembered for other reasons i.e. 1st win at Broch in ??years/months....there isn't a great deal of footballing opinion in this "Fraserburgh vs Huntly" thread which surely should hold the major talking points....

Who played well??
Who struggled??
Best Goal??
Major Incidents??

Aaaanyway, better get back to work- best of luck tonight to the team.

Or is the report the most important thing now??

Hmmmmmm, best be safe- best of luck reporter......

I do agree that it’s a pity that more folk can’t make more use of the site come onto the forum and actually talk about games.
We’re lucky nowadays if more than a few people comment on a good result or performance which is a pity as the team and management have been appreciative of the backing/praise they have received this season.

We have in-depth coverage and analysis for every match, allow interactive features to go along with the coverage, on the weekend of the game which is more than a lot of SFL clubs.

Ok, so some people might not be happy with what’s being written on the site either by myself or others, but at least they could acknowledge the team when they do well.

Big post but no answer. I did not criticise a reporter in my earlier post but I did state that my question had nothing to do with the current Cormie / own goal situation. It was a general football question. Was your response the internet equivalent of Alex Ferguson's hair dryer treatment? I do not claim to know anything about football. I still cannot understand why anyone would get a confidence boost by being credited for something they did not do. I suppose I will just have to live in blissful ignorance. It's a pity you don't approve of some of the posts on the website but I can tell you why people discuss boring and unimportant subjects - they just do!!!! Where have I seen that before? I actually think Grant does a good job on the website and it is there for people to express their opinions on any football related matters, boring, petty or otherwise. Sense of humour? - Don't make me laugh.

Well there-in lies the answer, you do not claim do know a lot about football....

That is my answer- it just does!

Same as your answer to the question of why people come on and post a lot of nonsence- they just do!

I can accept that!

As Grant says, would be nice to see a few positive football related comments once in a while- and if things aren't going well or team has had a holocaust, could constructive critisism be expected from fans...??

Great performance and result on saturday.
What a difference when you play 4-4-2 and keep it on the deck to allow passing football. strikers performed well with Bruce showing good instinct to get on the end of the 3rd and Edmond too with a couple of assists. Young Dorrat with a double seems to be taking the chance he's been given and Keith's loss could be our gain.
Same performance on Saturday will do.

Re: Fraserburgh v Huntly

Didn't make the game as I don't agree with the views some members in the supporters club possess and I think I would have my belt strapped around my neck by the time we got out beside the BP.

So how was the game then lads?

Heard Huntly Diehard talking about the change of formation back to 4-4-2 and I have to agree with him I do think 4-4-2 is the best formation for Huntly to play.

Great also to hear that they kept the ball on the deck as I don't think we have a striker with any presence up front to cause any threats from playing long balls.

Should be an easy enough game against Fort William this weekend, hopefully the lads take enough confidence from the result over the Broch to make easy work of Fort William.

to be honest who cares who it was scored against the broch, wether it was cormie or it was an own goal it was still a goal to us, HUNTLY FC, if grant thinks that cormie scored it, its his choice, some people think its an own goal, thats there choice, why argue?
