Whilst the senior team's fantastic result on Saturday must get the most plaudits, we had another major success in the formation of our new Uner 12's team. To our delight, 44 young players turned up!! Fantastic work was done on the registration by Chris, Sammy,Ian,Kevin, Donna, Peter and Wendy and a big thanks for sponsorship goes to R and M and Sportsmatch Scotland.
Robin,
this further news update regarding "under 12s" recruitment and numbers "actually" signing on, coupled with a "Great" Win for the "Senior" Team at Fraserburgh, our first there in thirteen years has capped off an "excellent" seven days for Huntly FC.
The "Power" of hard work that is "clearly" ongoing at all levels within the Club, as shared on both your "Overview" Post and "further" Sponsorship Postings are second to None!
Getting those Kids in at that age level and retaining them as part of the conveyor belt within the "structured" playing Levels will further "aid" the Building of an "already" Strong foundation and "personally" this is nothing short of a "major" Postive for Club.
The Club can look ahead with heads held "high" and are sure to be the envy of many of our opposition.
As I have quoted before regarding Football, The future's Black & Gold! Praise for praise that's due.
What a difference "One" week can make and not a "Negative" in site!!
Andy R, many thanks, things are moving nicely at present. The next group of young scholarship players go to Soccer Circus on March 15th when they will receive exclusive and specialised coaching, then they go on to Easter Road to be VIP guests at the Hibernian match. Then we sit down, review the scholarship programme, and decide what improvements can be made for next season. We have already attracted the funds to pay for next season's scholarship programme.
I believe yesterdays training was another success. well done!
Where does this go from here? Is the pla to enter an under 13's and under 12s in the summer? even further down if number permit an under 11s,10s or 9s ??
the youth set up seems to be getting better and better and this must be commended.
Congratulations on the current efforts by Huntly FC towards constructing a viable youth policy.
However I have three concerns.
1. You say you want to have a Centre Of Excellence. I admire the club for aiming for the highest level, but where do the products of the setup go after reaching first team status at senior team level at the club? The only SFA affiliated clubs that can cater for a clear pathway to international status wihin our area are Aberdeen,Elgin,Ross County,Peterhead, and Caley. The only option for any outstanding prospect would be to sign for a professional outfit to continue his progression towards the top. At this point, do Huntly FC want to be spending a lot of money, and effort for professional clubs to reap the reward further down the line?
2. Apart from your recent newly founded U12's, the other teams within the club are not accessible to all? I have heard of plenty children within the community that were keen to play for their local club, but were deemed not good enough at a pre season trials. How can the club expect to continue to attract national/local funding if the club are seen to be discriminating against local individuals who are seen to have lesser ability?
3. Will the Huntly Boys League be effected by the newly formed U12's, as basically all the children within this age category will already be affiliated to this local league?
Congratulations again on the efforts of the club on resurecting youth football in the town, but as my post has previously stated, there are issues that need to be ansewered for the club to continue on a successful vein.
"3. Will the Huntly Boys League be effected by the newly formed U12's, as basically all the children within this age category will already be affiliated to this local league?"
No! this is the argument ive been putting forward for about three years now and being shot down in flames in some quarters.
The Boys League is not a proper youth setup, but has a place 1) in football terms & 2) in huntly community. That will never go away.
But gearing up for sevens and gearing up for eleven-a-sides are two different things. Take Gary McGowan, he was at boys league (i think?) but eventually came to Insch & District FC to play eleven-a-side. I have two players in my squad who hae been in this position and can think of several more.
The best thing could happen for kids in huntly wanting to play competitive football is for HYFC to enter team/s where they can get coaches or supportive adults into the development leagues under 9s-12s (12s is a MUST as far as Im concerned) ALONGSIDE thier participation in the Boys League. This WORKS as I have experience of it.
Id be interested to hear a rundown of membership in this latest youth recruitment to see if there was sufficient numbers in any age group/s to run a team after the summer, if there are any get the word out and you never know a coach may come forward!
Well AH has really got to the heart of the matter here.
My lad plays in the Keith boys league. They have a great set up.
Islavale have tried to set up a limk with Keith who are not interested.
Most of the Keith 1st team come from Aberdeen and Stonehaven.
That's why Craig Dorrat is and will be a star for Huntly.
Thats why Gary Morrison , a Keith lad, will be a star for Huntly.
We really are setting up an advantage here.Make no mistake.
Good to see some decent chat with all putting their points without being slagged off for their opinion.
I would think that the Boys League & Youth set ups should be able to co-exist as Boys league very much during the summer months and the Youth set up would follow the normal Aug/Sept to April senior season (I may be wrong and will stand corrected if so).
Some really good constructive comment here which is very exciting. My focus at the moment is to complete the first year's scholarship programme next weekend, and we can then focus a wee bit more on where we are going. Really encouraging to note all the interest.
AH regarding gary ,the boys league played a 14s & 17s team in the moray firth youth league 1996/98,a very competitive set up which incl caley, ross county, elgin etc.Gary mcgoo played 14s ,stevie dunbar was manager then ,i was with 17s ,gary also played a couple of times for 17s.That was a cracking team which incl guildy, mark borzoni, stuart duncan & a certain grant turner, team renunion to be arranged
to re-iterrate i think the two can work side by side, and offer constructive football in Huntly together. will look forward to hearing the thoughts of robin etc once these "deliberations" have been made.
