Not being a sports fan, but one who did enjoy reading Jerry's sports columns (and was introduced to him one lunchtime at the Twins on Park Place because of that), his excellence appears again in his recollections of the Newark Schools Stadium.
My own stadium memories go back into the 40's, before my family moved us away from No. 7th St., between Orange St. and Sussex Ave. I recall fireworks being conducted there, probably on the 4th of July, and also a more memorable military mock battle, probably during WWII. Regrettably, it has become just another example of the neglect that has overtaken that area which we loved while we were being raised there.
