This recent photo was taken from the corner of Orange Street and Myrtle Avenue. Many years ago, had you been looking across Orange you would have seen Bodholdt's Diner in all its glory. I remember exactly how it looked. If only we could get a photo of that old diner!

I was in this exact position yesterday looking at the former site of Bodholts Diner. I had an appt. with a pediatrician who's office is in the old bank building on the corner of Roseville and Orange St.
(down from where Grunning's was). The office staff told me that there was a fire at St. Rose's the other day. I drove by but didn't see anything unusual. It really is sad to see how bad the old neighborhood looks. I call on alot on physicians in Newark (esp. in our old "hood"!) and I have to say that I think most of them are really dedicated to caring for those less fortunate. They're certainly not there making money.....I think it's that good old "Newark Spirit".
John,
I may have such a photo. Don't let my (older) brother Tim Colgary know about this, because I believe he is in said photo wearing his shiny white First Communion suit. I'll check this weekend. Regards.
Bonnie, that would be outstanding! I'm sure Tim and I received our FHC the same day. If Tim objects, we can always airbrush him out! (Just kidding, Tim.)
I'm crushed at the thought that you want to air brush me out with my Communion suit. John Harte may also be in the picture that my sister, Bonnie is talking about.
bodholts was owned by joe 'pops'scribner his son joey worked graveyard shift joey is a dentist in bellville n j someone around there look in the phone book and call him
Hi Lucia, small world, my family lived above Nasons Butcher shop (447 Orange St)until around 1958.
We moved to North Newark for a few years, then moved to 4th St just across the train bridge. I returned to St Rose's for the 7th and 8th grades. If you go on Google maps, street view you will see Hopps Drugs at 447 now.
Dear Tim.....Hi....I hope they aren't going to air-brush you out of a photo...because I would be very curious to see if you might be the tim colgary that lived on North (th street in the sixties, and was a good friend of my brother jim. I lived on orange street over Nason's butcher shop, until april of 1960 , whe nmy family moved to north 9th street. I think that hopps drug store is there now, where nason's used to be.
July 12, 2002 posting by Bonnie Colgary Keubler possibly having a photo of Bodholt's Diner from across the street; did that photo ever turn up after all these years?
There must be some living relatives who onced owned Budholt's Diner that may have old photos. Did you know any of the owner's names? The business is probably registered with the Essex County Clerk's Office in Newark.
Lets find John Hart. Last I saw him was his Capital Theatre
days heading up security. I lost touch with him when he went on tour with kiss back in 78-79.
one of these days i would like to reshoot doc bergs photos....from the spot he took them....it would be a then and now ......imagine that......if i didn't get mugged for my camera while i did it....
