Some of you know I have been back in Jersey about a month and am driving a cab while looking for a more suitable job. I know all work is honorable, and I have some golden moments driving around, meeting people, grooving on the foliage, etc., but I am anxious to jettison the marathon shifts and, um, modest pay and return to a more comfortable standard of living and a better use of my brain, such as it is. I did a bit of networking at the reunion but didn't give it the effort a truly desperate man should have. So please allow me to network here for a moment.
Briefly, I'd be grateful if anyone can share with me a lead for a writing/copy-editing job here in Northern Jersey or NYC. I've worked on several newspapers (mostly in Oregon), including the Elizabeth Daily Journal, and have edited copy for trade magazines like Travel Weekly (which, oddly enough, was published twice weekly).
I will also consider other jobs where I can be creative and wear nice clothes. Sorry for going so far off topic, and thanks for any help.
Hello Everyone,
We all had a fantastic time at the reunions last weekend. I remember hearing and reading how we all owe it to John Crowley for his wonderful work with this website. Well I think it's payback time!!!
We had over 100 people at each reunion. If everyone puts their thinking caps on and we do a little networking, I'm sure we can find John a position more suited to his talents. So what do you say we all start searching!!! John deserves our help!!! Thank You, Bob.
Bobby,
I couldn't have said it better myself. At the moment I don't think I have any connections that might be helpful to John but I will put every effort into trying to find one ASAP....There's no time like the present so I'll sign off and make some phone calls.
John,
Don't worry about posting photos this weekend...take some time and relax. The visions of the reunion weekend are still fresh in our minds and can hold tight a little longer while you take a well deserved breather! Sure everyone agrees.
Didn't Phyllis(sp) Florek say something about a connection she had with The Star-Ledger? I think she mentioned it at Cryan's, when we met there before the reunions.
John,
If you have a resume handy, e-mail it or fax it to me @732-818-0117. I know someone at the Asbury Park Press, and if she's still there (I haven seen her in a while) I'll pass it along. If she's not there I'll find out where she is. Anyway, if you don't mind coming a little farther South to work, I'd be happy to help.
John, email me your resume and I'll pass it on to some colleaques in the headhunting biz; also, I'll send you a list of various consulting agencies - some of which handle technical writing. Though telecommunications tech. writing has been pretty thoughly quashed in our beautiful Garden State, one never knows when we'll rebound. In any event, I'll certainly put out the feelers and see what turns up. Best luck! And thanks again for this site!
