Just as an FYI- these ads are really annoying! Can we all kick in some money for the upkeep of the website?
Tis the season and all that-thanks again for a wonderful job- see ya at Cryans!
Love as usual!
Getting rid of the ads is no big deal. Network 54 -- an off-site message board host -- charges only $6 a month for their "Premium Service," which eliminates all advertizing. The problem is that, having moved and changed banks, I have had to change my billing instructions, and apparently this creates a short (I hope) discontinuation of ad-zapping.
The real cost of a website like this one lies in the "transfer usage." Every time someone opens a page or a thread, or adds a message -- and especially opens or downloads photos -- the number of bytes involved is tacked onto one's account. The program I subscribe to costs about $250 a year and allows me 6 gigabytes monthly, which I have been exceeding for several months now, in the process incurring extra-usage charges of ten bucks a month.
Of course, these aren't huge amounts, but there's no question that Bodholt's has become popular; the message board and associated photo galleries have far outpaced the other components of thecanteen.com. And there are several more sections I would like to add, including expanded photo galleries and a piece on the Newark streetcars and City Subway; additionally, I hope to help the St. Rose students build and maintain their own section. So that will mean an upward adjustment in the service package.
As mentioned before, the fledgling Alumni Association donated $100 from the proceeds of last month's St. Rose Reunion to help defray internet site costs, for which I again thank everyone. This is the only sort of sponsorship I think is acceptable for this website, and if it is the wish of Bodholdt's members to continue to sponsor the site, I will gladly accept the help.

I agree with everything JC has said and from the comments I've read I believe that most of the alumni participating on this site are also in agreement.
On that note, I would like to nominate Bobby Davis to develop and lead a committee comprised of about 4 or 5 people to come up with a viable solution to this problem.
We need to help John as much as we can. I'm sure that this committee can canvass the members to donate a very small amount per person.
An example would be 100 members (we have more than that) donating $10 a year. That would add $1000 to the fund at less then $1 per month per member.
I'm not sure if that's enough or not but we need to develop this idea as a group to ensure this website is preserved in a way that benefits us all.
We need to act now.

You can count me in too! I had no idea there was a fee for the site and John was carrying the load alone. Please excuse my ignorence and let me know where and how much money to send. It's the least we can do for the hours of enjoyment the site brings to all of us.
BOB DAVIS, JUST LET ME KNOW WHERE TO SEND THE$$.
HOPE EVERYINE IS WELL. HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING.
THANKS TO ALL FRO THE WONDERFUL TIME WE HAD A BOTH REUNIONS.
BEST TO ALL,
CAROL RAAB
