This is how St. Rose of Lima School looked when it was first built. As Mike McLafferty recalls, "the original school was set back from Orange Street. There was a small grass plot between the school and Orange Street. Later the new addition was put on, including the elevator, and all north of the principal's office was new. The building then was extended all the way out to Orange Street."

Pretty impressive, but it's a shame they had to lose those front steps.

Probably best the stairs were gone by time we got there or we would have been thrown down the stairs and rolled into the middle of Orange street.

Behind the school is another building, and beyond that was the current St. Rose church (where the rectory is now), bought from another congregation and used until the "new" church was started in '23 or so. There's a good history of these buildings in the Jubilee Booklet in the St. Rose Archive: http://www.thecanteen.com/archive01.html
