Hi John, I just have to thank you for all the time you have given to finding such great photos and putting on the site for all to enjoy. I was born and raised in just that area. I remember riding the subway car down Orange Street with my Mom to go shopping downtown. They use to sway back and forth and made so much noise you couldn't hear the other person speak, and as I remember they were pretty "stinky" too. It's pretty amazing how photos stir memories of things you never think about. As the saying goes, "you can never really go home again"; perhaps not, but you certainly have helped to make that statement questionable. It was a great area to grow up in and a simpilar time to live in. I have wanted to see it all again so many times, but I know it's not the same, and I'd rather remember how it was. So keep up the good work and keep it coming. Thanks, KHF
Hi Katherine...I hope all is well with you. I remember that today is Dolores's birthday. When you speak to her please wish her a Happy Birthday from me and tell her we are all anticipating her arrival on the site. Thank You, Bob.
Any idea of the year here?? I recall having those boots circa 1966???
Any one else remember irridescent suits and mohair sweaters?
Teased hair?
I do recall Sister Gertrude sticking Rosanne Keel's hair in the girls room sink because it was teased. What a sin!
Forget makeup and short skirts--- straight to hell- do not pass go.
Humm- guess I still have a few issues.
and as usual John
thanks for the memories!
And none of the men are wearing hats....except that one guy is carrying a package wrapped in brown paper and string. When was the last time you saw that?
Speaking about the mystery package, I remember a small hard cardboard tube with two metal hooks that would wrap around the string to make a carrying handle. That made it easier to get on the bus or subway.
sister's Rita and Regina teamed up at the same time,
taking roseanne from one class and Renee Frino from
the other. They would do it every year to send a
message to our young ladies to stop imitating the CYO
crowd. Was it peer pressure to want to look like the
Lancer groupies? They also through a fit when we all bought Beatle wigs at lunch time and wore them to class
Bobbie Regan in Regina Rose's class and I caught
"Holy Hell". Of course the picture of John C. now comes
to mind.
I do remember Rosanne and Renee getting it for their sinful big hair. LOL
What ever happened to Roseanne Keel? She was the resident hard girl of St. Rose's
Teased hair, black leather jacket, ballerina slippers and black stretch pants. Smoking and hanging out.
Bad to the bone.
Those were the days
Great photos. I recall taking the subway on Park Avenue to Heller Parkway. From there, I took the 30 Bloomfield bus to Bloomfiled Tech. Where did the time go?
John, I loved the subway photos, brought back many memories, never forget the day I saw one back up at the park ave. stop , its as bad as the dead cat story.I think it would be alot of fun if we could get a group together and take a field trip through Newark and perhaps maybe ride the City subway again!!Maybe a bus trip????
