Thanks to Joe Culligan we have a photo of the Class of '63 at http://www.thecanteen.com/class63a.html . There are a few "blanks" to be filled in. Thanks, Joe.

Also, last time we were at the school they found a few more class photos for us, and we've scored both 1964 classes. I know many of them but will need a lot of help. I'll add that link when I've got them posted.

Lancers had a parade coming up.Our uniforms were all
hanging on the clothesline drying together.
Does anyone still have a clothes line? Dan, you were

Blessed Sacerment Golden Knights

February 20 2003, 9:38 PM

Hi Jimmy, Well I never played for the Golden Knights, but did go to school there until 1955, when my family moved to 5th. Street. Of course we were big fans back ten and still are. Someone was talking about great corps, I would think Sac was one of the greatest, when drum corps was drum corps. On a side note someone mentioned Paul V. Nelson, to those that don't know Paul was KIA on May 31, 1969 in Quang Nagi Province, Vietnam while serving with the 198th.Light Infantry Brigade,USA. May he rest in Peace.

In the 5th row (last row), 4th person over from the left is my brother, Ralph Brown, and 7th person over is Larry Nelson who lived in the apartments on 5th street between Orange Street and Sussex Avenue.

You may be correct. Paul Nelson was the youngest of 3 brothers (Eddie, Larry and Paul) and they lived on 5th street during the early-mid 50's.

Thanks for a day full of memories! :-)

February 1 2004, 11:04 PM

Thanks to the AP press article, I found this website. I attended SRL from K to 7th grade with my sister, Toni (Antoinette). We made our First Communions and Confirmations and joined Girl Scouts at SRL. Had we not moved to Woodbridge in October of 62, we would have graduated from SRL with the class of 63. I remember so many of those in this picture. Eileen in the fourth row has to be Eileen Aloia, whose aunt played piano and taught us many songs to sing in the auditorium for holidays and holy days. Lauren Gdovin & Joann Iovino are remembered fondly as good friends. I also remember Sara McCree, MaryJo Cece, Allan McQuilkin, Ralph Brown, Dennis Lardiere and most of the others. I guess a lot of other SRL families left before graduation since I remember others who are not pictured: Anthony Lombardo, Raymond who lived on N 10th or 11th between Park & 4th, John Smith whose mother taught 5th grade (Sr Marion Anthony taught the other), Robert Sommer (sp?)(who had his mouth taped in K for talking too much!), Maureen Murtagh, Ellie Concepcion, Joanne McMenaman, etc. Could this be only one of the 8th grade classes? I was in one class and my sister was in the other through all the grades. We started school together when we moved from Jellif Ave in St Charles parish the summer before K started (1956). We were in the same class for K with Sr Matthew Joseph, 1st grade with Mrs. ? who left mid-year and Sr Matthew Joseph took over. In second grade I was moved mid-year into Sr Rita Charles' class.

WOW! I have had quite a day! I've been all over the OldNewark site and this site. Have looked at most of the photos and have re-lived so many memories! I'll be sure to visit often and hope to "hear" from some others in the class of '63!

Funny enough, I'll be in Newark tomorrow on business. I'll be sure to smile warmly!
