a funny thing happened on the way to the forum...
naaaaa scratch that, " a funny thing happened on
the way to cryans" hahahahaha TOGAAAAA TOGAAAA TOGAAA!!
just a reminder, that the 15th is the Union county ST. Patrick's day parade in Union.
With the Irish out in full force, Cryan's will be packed that night.
Many of you still may be planning to go Cryans on Saturday. John, I don't know if you got my email, however, the gist of it is that McGovern's Tavern in Newark is hosting "Celtic Cross", a fabulous Irish band, on Saturday, 3/15. Their show starts at 9:00 p.m. They are really fantastic and I suggest that we get a bunch together and go there instead of Cryans. I know that McGovern's will have a giant crowd because of the weekend and "Celtic Cross", but Ed & I are going anyway. I believe that McGovern's will charge a $10.00 cover; they are not taking reservations and the kitchen is closed. BUT the Guinness will run freely for sure! So, anyone wishing to join us at McGovern's rather than go to Cryans after the Vailsburg parade please do. We can meet somewhere before hand to eat and plan to get to McGovern's early enough to try to get a table. Here's an Irish Toast to start the night: "May the roof above us never fall in, And may we friends gathered below never fall out." McGovern's on Saturday! -Deb
Yes, I got your E-mail, just haven't formulated a plan of action yet. I dropped into McGovern's last time Celtic Cross was playing and went right out again, as the joint was packed with noisy youngsters, and the band was just blasting. So for a bite to eat and a few beers, I would vote for "somewhere else." We could still meet at 6 or so for a couple hours of food and schmoozing before heading off to other places. Like I said, we can always reschedule. I just threw out that date as a fer'instance.
I agree with Marty lets blend in with the crowd.
McGoverns real nice place, i was there last week
when the cops from across the sea came over, and yes
McGoverns will be packed, also it's one of the best
"watering hole" for the "boys in blue" ;^)
P.J. Ryans' is just two years old and is known as Jersey City's Downtown Irish Bar. It is located just two blocks South of NewPort Mall one block north of the Pershing building. The owners are great guys from the old sod Our staff frequents every Friday after work. It is about 8 blocks from the Holland Tunnell.
Check it out Danny boy.
Marty, I suggested a Saturday because several people told me they couldn't easily make it on a Friday, as our past gatherings have been. Perhaps we should schedule it nearer the end of the month, so we'll be clear of St. Paddy's Day and its attendant overindulgence. Opinions?
Looks like it'll be more successful if we pick another date. Some people have plans already, and our favorite watering hole will be jammed with amateurs. How about Saturday, March 29?
I don't mean to imply it won't be a party without me (although there would be something missing), so knock yourselves out, wherever you go, and don't forget to leave a tip.
