A 29 Bloomfield car stops at our local NCS station. My Mom worked at Tung Sol. I think they made light bulbs. This photo would be no later than about 1952, when the line was re-routed to a surface line via diesel bus.

Tung-Sol

Hello John C. You know my mother worked at Tung-Sol in the mid-50's. Yes they made light bulbs all sizes, and flaslights. They were black and the case was covered with rubber so if it fell it wouldn't break. Later she worked at our hangout "Bodholts". Agnes was her name. After awhile she only worked on Sundays and covered vacations.

Dan, Your Mother was the best waitress at Bodholt's. Taylor ham on a hard roll and seeing your Mom were things that made Sundays special.

Tung-Sol

My mother (Mary) worked at Tung-sol from 1952 to around 1970. I remember those little auto bulbs they made. A couple of my science projects at SRL naturally involved the manufacturing process of bending and shaping of glass into a bulb. It was kinda neat, what was even neater was tossing the bulbs into the air and having them "explode" on the sidewalk.

I remember also the subway line next to Tung-Sol and putting pennies on the track and the hours spend playing ball at Newark Academy and Boys' Park across the street.
