September 5 will mark our first observance of what we hope will become a tradition: First Fridays at Cryan's. You needn't sign up -- just show up. Thanks to Billy Tortoriello and Dennis Molinaro for coming up with the idea.
If I remember correctly, when we were at SRL we were told that "if you make 13 First Fridays in a row you went straight to heaven when you died". Does this hold true for Cryans also? Maybe Eileen could help us out with this one!!!!
Actually, I think it was nine First Fridays that got you a free pass through the pearly gates. And I think that it is appropriate for the Bodholts gang to keep on celebrating those First Fridays since (in my day at least) we usually went to Bodhholts for a breakfast of toasted corn muffin and hot chocolate after Mass. Remember how school began an hour late on First Fridays?
We can agree that between nine and 13 trips to Cryan's on First Friday will get you a backstage pass at the Rapture. That's settled.
A good time was had by all at last night's inaugural observance. Rico showed up a bit late, and I didn't get to talk with him much, but Pat Purcell got a heaping helping of him. We who arrived before 6:30 enjoyed some excellent Happy Hour chow, including succulent chicken breast and Beef & Peppers. When everyone ordered dinner, all I could eat was some fries & brown gravy (served in a regal little gravy boat, which, had I not been there in an official capacity, I certainly would have accepted as a souvenir).
No sign of Tortoriello, who was observing Poker Night somewhere, but D. Molinaro did show up to christen his idea. Bobby D. showed off his newly svelte physique, and of course it's not a party without the Strallows. Around nine the karaoke started, and after that it was only a matter of time.
Yet a splendid time was had by all. Same time next month!
Hey Guys,
Since we are having Alumni Day October 17th (with a trip to Cryan's afterwards) are we still getting together for First Friday? I would guess that we'll wait till Alumni Day? Just wondering. :o\
Having just recovered from my prescribed Black & Tans, I can report that, as usual, a good time was had by all at Cryan's Friday night. This time Joan and Freddie brought Freddie's lovely daughter Danielle, who showed us her tattoo. I left before the karaoke got into full swing, so I was spared the inevitable denouement of the evening. Marty, did you get up and sing "Born to be Wild"?
John, why is it that you always leave
when things start to get real good?
it was nice seeing Dr. Kimbal again as
well as Joan, Freddie and Danielle.
But you missed it, I won't divulge their names
on here but rumor has it that the 2 stallians
whisked away these 2 damsels in distress sitting
at the bar and they haven't been heard from, I just hope they make it back in time for the SRL reunion on the 17th of Oct.
By the way, whatever happened to the picture of
Dr. Kimabal, the one with the studed collar and
the "kid" standing in front of the Lancers bus?
I almost forgot, it was nice seeing Billy Mollinari
(not sure on the spelling)
Rico, that was Dennis Molinaro. There were a lot of Molinaros on Third Street!
I suppose I did leave earlier than you, but my super-signal watch went off and I had to join the other members of the Justice League. Turned out to be a false alarm, but when the thing buzzes I am obligated to show up. (Never sign a contract after drinking mead.)
For all of you who haven't been to Cryan's with us on First Friday's I want to let you know that it is a great time. St. Rose Alumni gather in numbers to talk about the old times as well as the present and the future. Cryan's is a great bar and the music and atmosphere are fantastic! They also have great food!So why not drop in and join us on December's First Friday which is December 5th. We hope to see you there! --- Dennis M.
Yes, let's get the word out for the 12/5/03 get together at Cryans. I'll get some postcards printed out and mail to all registered alumni this weekend.
Just a reminder! January's First Friday get-together At Cryan's will actually be held on the second Friday of the month which is Friday Jan. 9th! This is due to the fact that the first friday in Jan. (Jan. 2nd) is too close to New Years Day! We hope to see you all there! --- Dennis M.
