In Good Standings?

I have contributed to the SRL Alumni Membership
for the last time! This listing of Members in good
standing serves no purpose, but to hurt this
membership drive. I for one, contributed in good
will to help these children, I had no idea that
they (The Board) were going to tout a who' who list
and overlook those who have donated monies for this
purpose. Go ahead and post your pictures and make your
incomplete lists, but this web site is now starting
to reek, rather than uphold its true intention!

Not having a full list throws out any recognition
of a professional organization at the helm and sports
an advertising weakness in membership. Also, having
an Alumni ask me why I haven't joined is
infuriating, nonetheless. There are
no set boundaries identifying the requirements of
"In good standing." Enjoy it!

I applaud the webmaster for not censoring
this message of our SRL family.

I'm not an "offical" member. And I've always
been treated with the same kindness and charm
I recieved when I met all of you, sure there
might be some wrinkles to iron out, but please
we've all come this far in life and "age" to
vent such anger.

I'm the youngest of all "Class of 72"
and sure I miss my classmates of that
year when we all get together, but I still
have such a great time with my upper classmates
ALL OF YOU, soooo please, don't lose touch with us,
i'm sure this can be worked out.

This website has brought a lotta good times
sureee we talk about the "what it WAS like"
but the beautiful part of it all is that deep
down inside we're still those same kids of yesteryear.

And as Linda D. says " my 2 cents" well, i'm
adding my 2 cents.

Ciao,

Rico-Class of 72 :^)

And Ricco, your 2 cents is really worth a million, at least to most of us reading this web site.

For years since our graduations, 1972 and back, SRL was just a mere memory. Last year a bunch of us realized how important a memory it was at that. We hoped it would live on for many years to come through the eyes of the present and future students at SRL. People want things done but stand on the sidelines making comments but letting everyone else do the work. We do the best we can with the limited time and funds available. I'm happy and proud to be a board member and sign my name openly.....Linda

What would you call it?

August 29 2003, 12:01 PM

I had no idea there was a list of "Member's in Good Standing" list until I read this post. I looked and my name was on it simply because I sent my membership fee in and that's how it should be. This allows us to check and be sure our dues are being recorded and accounted for. I suggest that if anyone has a problem with the name "Member's in Good Standing" they can propose a name change but until then, I see nothing out of line.

what list

August 29 2003, 1:50 PM

I may not be a mouse specialist but I can't even find the list never mind if my name is there or not. Where is the confounded list I've heard so much about? I really don't care if my name is on the list or not because I have no intentions of becoming part of the board but I would like to us do more for SRL and hope I can help in the future. Visiting the SRL was a great moment for me. I hope we continue this site and I hope we can help keep SRL open since many of our other great schools in poverty stricken areas are closing. Cryans on Fridays may not be for me but SRL will be in heart forever.

Frank

Clarification

August 29 2003, 3:00 PM

Ordinarily I would delete anonymous posts. There are two possibilities: that you simply neglected to include your name or you deliberately declined to take responsibility for your comments. I hope it's the former.

Firstly, there are two lists on this website, one for our discussion board, Bodholt's Diner, and one for those who have taken the extra step to support the Alumni Association. No one is obligated to join the SRLAA, which is the entity we've created to help the school and the students. But we do want to recognize those who have made that extra commitment, hence the Alumni List of Members in Good Standing. That phrase "in good standing" was merely a little literary flourish of mine and in no way is meant to suggest we should think any less of those who don't care to take that action. It means you've joined the SRLAA, nothing more or less.

Bodholt's is a casual but central place where we gather and exchange information, and all are welcome without expectation. Of course we "fish" for SRLAA members there, because that's where the alumni are. We're happy to see you whether you join the SRLAA or not.

Secondly, you mention that you are through contributing, which leads me to believe that for some reason we have failed to properly acknowledge that contribution. If that's the case, I apologize. We are a new organization and still getting the hang of things. As the webmaster I am occasionally tardy in posting things and will accept the blame if that is the case. If you did contribute money and have not been acknowledged, I think an E-mail to one of the board members asking us to fix the oversight would have been a better way of handling it than launching an angry, anonymous broadside at our entire enterprise.

Re: Clarification

August 29 2003, 4:29 PM

Thank you John for explaining to this person the reasons we are posting the names of the people who have "joined" the SRLAA. This person is not the only one who has "contributed" monies to the SRLAA. Joining the SRLAA and contributing money to the SRLAA are two different things. The more Alumni who join the more money we have to accomplish things at the School. Also, any contributions made can be "earmarked" for certain things at the school. There is a "wish list" which was posted many months back. Many people have contributed over the past year to cover the costs for the things we have done for the children. Most was done before the Association was incorporated. Everyone on the Board has been working very hard to raise money for the benefit of the kids along with the many other duties of being a Board member. We did not intentionally overlook the money that has been contributed to the Association during the past year. Every time we had a completed event for the kids we have thanked those who contributed to help make it a success on this website. Now that we are aware that this person would have liked to have been thanked publicly we can discuss what we should do regarding this situation. Perhaps a letter from the Board acknowledging the "contribution"? or perhaps a page under the Association heading listing those who have contributed money (not listing amounts) to us for the school?!! As John has stated, all it would have taken was an email to a Board member with a suggestion regarding this oversite and we would discuss it at our meeting. The Members in Good Standing list is not incomplete - it takes time to get the information to all involved and have the names posted of those who have "JOINED" the SRLAA. We apologize for the upset the Board member caused anon by contacting about JOINING the Alumni, but this was one of his many jobs on the Board and he has done it quite well. We have not been informed of anyone else being annoyed about it. People either join or they don't.! If we knew who this person was we would be sure not to annoy them again. As has been stated, we are a new organization and we are trying not to make mistakes but we are only human and did not deserve the angry, insulting way this person attacked us. Our intention has not changed and we will continue to do our very best for the children of SRL. And, as I have stated over and over and over again - all suggestions and comments are welcome and will be discusssed. But, it would help if those commenting would take responsibility for their words. All of our email addresses are posted so there is no excuse to accuse us in this manner without having had the opportunity to discuss your misunderstandings (and there seems to be many) of what our intentions are and what steps we are taking to make this a great Alumni Association. This was an unfair, uninformed, cowardly, ignorant attack on people who have taken time from their families, jobs, personal lives, etc. to do the work they are doing. I am proud of the responsibility and hard work the people on this Board are doing and the many alumni who support us and understand the hugh tasks we have ahead of us. I will not have their determination and hard work undermined by someone who won't even take the responsibility to put their name to these untrue accusations.

The List

August 29 2003, 3:52 PM

I cannot believe that the person who wrote that note is too angry to even post their name.
What is that all about?
Come on "Anonymous" be a sport. What is the point if you won't even post your name?
Stand up for your convictions. You have a right to your opinions even though most rational alumni would disagree.

Hats marked "One size fits all" do not fit everyone!

August 29 2003, 4:38 PM

Donations come from the goodness of your heart. A lack of recognition shouldn't stop anyone from continuing the unselfish act of giving. It's good that you donated wthout knowing there was going to be a list. It didn't stop you then, don't let it stop you now unless now recognition is the primary intention.

Recognition here on earth will only get you a plaque or small article in the newspaper, but it's He who sees your acts of kindness and recognizes them when you arrive at His door. That's a far more important list to be on than here on a web site.

An alumni asking way you haven't joined sounds like their eagerness to build up the group still in it's infancy and get more funds for the cause. Maybe you can request your attendance at the next meeting and present your ideas on how to run the organization or post them here. That would be a help.

Everyone at SRLAA is only a volunteer and does this work when time allows for a cause that's dear to their heart. I'm sure He recognizes that too. Do not grasp the rewards of time, and let the rewards of eternity go.

Thankless Job

August 29 2003, 5:33 PM

I think John, Susan, Linda, Dan, Jeff & Rico have said all there needs to be said about this posting. Just be aware, "Anonymous", that fundraising is, for the most part, a thankless job, which a lot of people take for granted. Rest assured that the Board of Directors of the SRLAA, and I know I speak for all of us, have no agenda, other than to try to help the Students of SRL, and seek no cudos or recognition from anyone. We seek only the support of our fellow alumni, without whose help we cannot accomplish our goals.

Vincent

Thankless Job

I would like to extend my appreciation to the members of SRLA for there fine work they are doing.
In any organization that one has a part in is not a easy task. For myself is just trying to make the time to see old classmates would bring back alot of memories. However, alot of us are not always in the same circumstance.
John, Susan and the rest of you, keep up the fine "JOB" !!!!
ALL THE BEST....
Felim

Thankless Job

September 1 2003, 7:48 PM

I would like to thank everyone involved with this site and the SRLAA. You are all doing a wonderful job, keep up the good work. Just remember this is not really a thankless job, think about the happiness you have brought to the children of Saint Rose as well as the alumni.

My mom, sister and I had the opportunity to go to the picnic in Brick last month. It was a great day. My sister and I did not really know that many people, I graduated in 1973(so Rico you are not the youngest) and my sister in 1975, but we felt like we had come home. Just seeing my mother enjoying herself with some old friends was worth the trip.

Thank you all and do not let this one person spoil such a wonderful thing!!
