I was coming home from a meeting tonight in Jersey City when I saw a horrific fire around 9 pm at the apartments on Sixth Street between Sussex Avenue and Orange Street. Did anyone here live there?
I was recently asked to join the Parish of the Resurrection School Board. They run 5 elementary schools and one high school, Saint Mary's. One of the principals, Sister Elenor, used to be principal of Saint Anne's in Newark.
Tonight one of her former students, Dana King, donated $50,000 to the Parish of the Resurrection out of respect to her old principal from Newark. This former pupil is now known by the name of Queen Latifah. Isn't that a wonderful story?
To Debbie Cook, Jeanne and I can not attend. Our son Coach McCree's's team Wilkes University is playing their dreaded rival Kings College in the Mayor's Cup of Wilkes-Barre Classic. An invite to the NCAA playoffs are at stake. We still try to faithfully follow his career.
I lived at 99 North 6th Street (at the top of the 6th street hill) for the first 17 years of my life. I believe that building was torn down to make way for the highway.
Hi Frank, I wrote and sent you an email to the address listed on our members page. It was returned and said that there were "Fatal Errors!" Please email me so I may forward my note on to you. Thanks. Deb
Speaking of ex-students, St. Rose has a few ex-students in Hollywood, one of them being a producer of "That 70's Show". Perhaps he could help us organize a fund raiser with a few famous ex-Newarkers to raise money for our school??????
I can make a sweatshirt with SRL spelled out and NEWARK, NJ added reather than just the logo which is less recognizable.....maybe he can get one of the shows actors to wear it during a segement.......like Bill Cosby and Tim Allen used to do.
I made a shirt for one of the actors from "The Sopranos". (They film the pork store scenes here in Kearny and use the basement of my church for their lunches.)
It was quite a fire not to mention the firefighters and civilians that went to the hospitals that nite.
Since, I was at that fire maybe that could be put in a Hollywood script or on a sweetshirt. " Do or Die "
It is Dana Owens NOT Dana King. Guess the fire was on
fifth street not sixth street. This makes me feel old to say Debbie Cook, but our son is not a player. he graduated 9 years ago. He is the defensive coordinator (coach).
Frank I worked with the Queen's father in the Newark Police Department out of the South District. She's called the Queen, because he was Sir Lancealot Owens, But we just called him Lance.
I just passed there and saw the FD still flooding the place with water........roof is gone on both sides of the twin structure and it looks like at least the two top floors.
