John, could I be so bold as to post a Happy Birthday to my mother Sarah McCree? She would have been 87 years old today. Like many people of her day, her life was the church. She and my late father, Frank McCree jr, never missed Sunday mass and communion. At one time she was president of the rosary society. Maybe some of you knew her? Dad died 41 years ago this Friday, December 19th. The love and support of the people of SRL helped us get through those traumantic days.
Unlike my brother and sister, I never really knew SRL
School, having attended only a few months. Almost my entire grammar school days were spent at Good Counsel School. My days at Essex Catholic provided to be almost a total waste. I am so glad we sent our sons to Seton Hall Prep instead.
My connection to SRL is through the neighborhood and people of the era and the happy experience of participating in CYO baseball with great men like your beloved dad, Robert Crowley.
Unfortunately, I have not been active in the alumni association. Maybe one day. I have a school of my own with some of the same social and economic woes. Maybe we can get together for a basketball game soon.
I appreciate the kind words. Roseville was indeed a very special place, populated as it was by great little businesses and fine families like the McCrees. And my old man certainly left his mark. Happy holidays to you.
Frank, I remember your mother well. I'm an old friend of your brother John. Like your mother, my parents were very involved with St. Rose's. My mother worked at the school and my father was with the Drum Corps. I believe our parents contributed greatly to the development of many of us. I only hope that we, in the Association, can do the same for these kids.
