Unfortunately sadness sometimes occurs during the Christmas season. One such event took place on Orange Street 35 years ago tonight when legendary pharmacist Carl Hopp was wounded in a holdup at his landmark Orange Street store. The brave druggist refused medical attention and went right on selling Christmas candy. I believe, John, you were an employee of this famed businessman. Tonight, whether we are with family or some people at the local gin mill, let's drink a toast to Mister Hopp!
Yes, I did deliver prescriptions and perform various deeds for Mr. Hopp, one of the finest Roseville citizens of all time. We lived just down Fourth Street from the store. Carl Hopp was a kind, classy, brave guy. Thanks for reminding us about him, Frank.
We need to plan a Carl Hopp Night. Christmas also brings to mind another famous druggist, Mr. Gauer of Bedford Falls, New York. I think Elvis' dad was a pharmacist in "Jailhouse Rock".
Recently Mr. Robert "Bob" Cole of Cole's Funeral Home on Roseville Avenue passed away. He always supported community events in Roseville. So give a toast to him tonight also.
