Hi all,
John,
Thanks for getting Mr. Picard, the reporter for the Asbury Park Press interestd enough to pitch the Alumni Association's mission to his editor. I spoke to Mr. Picard and gave him some Names & numbers of other Alumni living in Ocean and monouth counties. Joe Picard called me on his way home from his visit at the school on Thursday, he said it was a terrific story .Joe felt he got some good story material and great shots of the kids.
Lets all hope he is able to get the story in this Sundays Asbury Park Press. We have many Alumni retires and just relocated to the south Jersey area and what a great way to reach out to them. I am saying a silent prayer that our membership will double this year so we can begin the Alumni scholarship fund.

The Asbury Park Press did a great article about the association and our mission. I hope some new Alumni will look us up now.

It was a really great piece. I think the writer did a good job capturing the reason for the alumni association. If anyone doesn't get the Asbury Park Press the link to the article is:

It is indeed a good story. I would only improve it by also mentioning Susan, who certainly was instrumental in creating the SRLAA. I thought I had mentioned her to the reporter, but sometimes things are lost in editing, and I will certainly correct that in a thank-you letter to the editor.

Carol, Linda and Dianne spoke very eloquently in the story -- well done, ladies. Mr. Picard also got some great quotes from the kids and Mr. Wilson, and framed the story nicely with some history of the area. And although for some reason there is no web link in the print edition of the story, the webpage edition has a link to the alumni page, so let's hope people will find us. I will also add that link in my letter to the paper and try to sneak it in that way.

Other than that I have no complaints, except that despite the photographer taking a few shots of me that day, none made it to the paper. I was wearing a very smart tie.

I just read the Asbury Park Press article on the website. Very well done! I showed it to a couple of friends and co-workers here in Texas and they were impressed not so much at the article but for the work and mission of the SRL Alumni Association. They were literally awe struck at the concern, committment, loyalty and dedication a group of elementary school mates and friends would have for the school and for improving the lives of those students who are now walking the same halls and sitting in same classrooms as we did 30 to 40 plus years ago. And positively influencing and interacting with a different generation with whom we have very little in common.

When my friends here mentioned this to me, I was too impressed. When they asked why? I simply replied "I guess ya hadda been there!"

The Priests and Nuns did their jobs well. The values, characters and principles we were taught in St Rose's were well instilled. And you are now passing those positive virtues to a completely different generation that will benefit by your work. That is awesome!

Everyone in the St. Rose Alumni Association should be very proud. You are very special and you keep proving it! I wish I was closer to be an intergal part and to give something more back.

My friends and classmates, I salute you!

Geno

Carol,

The article is already working for us. Mary Sheper Vandeventer, SRL 1968-1971, emailed me and asked to join the association.

APP article

John,
A letter of thanks to the editor is a great
idea. Susan, without your leadership and devotion to the cause all of this would still be just a dream.
I am really proud to be to part of the mission.
I have heard from a few Alumni that have been in the background thus far. here's praying that when we send out the membership forms for 2004, there will be renewed interest. Thanks John for getting the story
printed.

Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate all the support I have received from the people on this website. It was because of all of you that the association was able to accomplish what it did this year. I know it will only grow because of the enthusiasm and help everyone from the neighborhood has shown. I am who I am because of Roseville. We all have the same blood in our veins. That feeling of connection will never change. I am truly blessed to have all of you in my life. Roseville will always be a part of us and cannot be taken away. It doesn't matter where you live now or when you lived in Roseville. Thank you for being who you are. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
