Anyone from Class of '47 out there?

February 5 2004 at 10:15 AM
Kathryn (Catherine) Haran Boyle
from IP address 165.247.103.38

I lived on N.14th Street before we moved to 7th Ave. between 9th an 11th Streets. After graduation, I attended Central High. My brothers and sisters were Maureen, John (Jackie), Edward, and Kevin. I now live in Monmouth County on the Jersey Shore in the town of Oceanport where Monmouth Park Racetrack is located. I read the Asbury Park Press article about the SRLAA and decided to check out this website. Bodholtz Diner was after my time, we used to hang out at Grunnings. Look forward to reading posts from any fellow alumn.

7th avenue

I was a good friend of your brother Kevin when we were both in grammar school, when he was a year behind me. I graduated SRL in 1957. Goofus that I was, I never knew he had an older sister, although I knew he had some older brothers who were pretty tough guys.

Kevin and I used to attack ant colonies using cigarette ligher fluid cans as flame throwers outside your house on 7th Avenue.

We went our separate ways after grammar school, but I would stop and see him on occasion at the corner he used to hang around on up on 14th Street. I always liked him. Poor Kevin passed away soon after I got out of the army and before I left Newark for good and ended up down the shore myself.

Relation to Emmet Boyle

No relation, but know who you mean. I live one town over from Monmouth Beach, Monmnouth County, where Emmet Boyle opened Boyle's Tavern. As you may or may not know, Emmet Boyle passed away many years ago, and his son Joe is now the proprietor. It's quite the local hangout.

Welcome aboard, Kathryn! I was in your brother Kevin's class all through grammar school. He was quite a character! I was sorry to hear that he had died at such a young age. I remember him pointing out the house on 7th Ave where you lived (wasn't it kind of across from that little railway bridge?).
