Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, Summer 1949. The young lady in the photo, a Miss Shirley Stahler, has brought the young man she met in Atlantic City home to meet her family. She had been living with a couple girlfriends, waiting tables at a Boardwalk cafe, and one day a couple of Coast Guard guys walked in, one of them a 20-year-old Newarker, Robert Emmett Crowley of 204 N. 6th Street, SRL Class of 1943. Here they pose for their first photo in the family album.

Of course, they fell in love, married and had three children, including your webmaster. Today is my father's birthday. Many of you knew him, and I wanted to remember the day.

My parents are doing fine, thanks for asking.
they are in Florida for the month without their computer and that's why you haven't received a response.
My father and your father were very close. I always liked seeing your Dad.
Some great memories were going to your house with my father and watching his dog do some amazing tricks that your father had taught him to do.
I can't remember the name of that dog but I'll never forget it.

John, I remember your Dad walking your sister in the stroller up Fourth Street and usually into Sussex Avenue playground. Didn't see many Dads doing that in those days. Always thought he was a good daddy.

Mr. Crowley's impact on us 3rd and 4th Street guys was profound. he also enriched our vocabularies with words and phrases he learned in the coast guard.
