Was that the day "Billy-Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahassee Bridge"? And was the singer Bobby Gentry---("Ode To Billy-Joe").
Answer collaborated by Robert Davis Jr.
Yesterday morning a few of us here were talking about the "3rd of June", Bobbie Gentry and the "Ode to Billie Joe" easily came to mind. But someone mentioned the "3rd of June" was in another popular song. We all seem to remember another song but not the title or the singer. The consensus was that the song was in the late 70's or early 80's. While no one could remember the exact line, we think it was something like "the 3rd of June, I became a man that day"(?). We also seem to think it was a Neil Diamond song. The discussion about the song and the singer has now carried on to the 4th of June.
Can anyone from the old neighborhood help us solve this so we can get back to work?
41 years later and do we know what was thrown off the Tallahatchie bridge? Is it a cold case? which Crowley brother was bailing hay? See you June 21st, Saranne, one day after our 38th wedding anniversary. Are there any other songs with dates mentioned in the lyrics?
Clarence Carter sang: Two days later Papa passed away, and I became a man that day So I told Mama I was gonna quit school, but she said that was Daddy's strictest rule... You can go back to work now It's been 4 years.
Is that Clarence Carter the same guy who had that song "I'm Strokin", back about ten years or so? I was roarin'with laughter, first time I heard it. Couldn't believe they'd play that on the radio uncensored, but that's been the trend.
