The date: May 27, 1935. The place: Heller Parkway, the end of the line (for the time being) of the new Newark City Subway. The occasion: the first trolley to leave for the Broad Street terminus. (Later the line would be extended to Penn Station.) Looks like the inaugural run was a standing-room-only affair.
