In all fairness, since we took a look at Vulcania's, we should honor its "uptown" rival, Rallo's Restaurant. In this photo from the NPL's Berg Collection it's just where we remember it, near N. Seventh Street, right next to Brohman's dress shop.

(Brohman's, of course, will always be remembered, not for the dowdy frocks my grandmother bought there, but for the mythic horse-through-the-window episode, which if I recall correctly happened on Halloween in about 1961 or '62.)

From the few times we ate in Rallo's, I do recall the food being quite good -- but still maintain Vulcania's had the best pizza.

Rollo's! This is where I learned to eat pizza at all. I don't know Vulcania's... but remember another pizzaria near the Tivoli theatre, and also Tommy's on 11th Street at Fourth Avenue.

I remember getting a slice and a grape drink at the Pizza Parlor next to the Tivoli for .25! Also, inside there were notes on each mirror saying not to comb your hair over the tables.

Rollos

Yep !! That's Rollos ....That was the first Pizza place in Roseville. I remember looking in the window, watching the guy make Pizza with a rolling pin. you could get a slice of pizza for 15 cents. the whole pie was only a dollar. and I think a soda was a nickle. Only the name wasn't Rollos then, I think it was Stabilios.(not Sure) the Rollos used that name for a time until they were established. I can remember in the summer on Saturday nights, we would hang around 'till the store closed so that Vic Rollo, Jackie Clark and Myself could head for Belmar to sleep on the beach. While we were waiting, of course we would deliver the Pizzas to help out. For this Mrs Rollo, (Vic's mom) would fill me up with meatball sandwiches.(you can only eat so much Pizza)
