Just in time for holiday shopping comes our 2005 Orange Street 1961 Calendar, something Dan and I have been working up for a while. Using photos from the NPL's Berg Collection, it presents a nostalgic look at Roseville's main thoroughfare from Third to N. 11th streets, featuring 13 full-page images. Additionally, every calendar is guaranteed to contain at least 365 days!
Asking price is $10 each postpaid, all profits going toward maintaining this website, as well as toward the new Friends of Roseville historical society. More details of the FOR -- a fellowship of people from all around Roseville -- will be presented as the paperwork gets finished.
We should be ready to start mailing out the calendars December 1, so get your orders in early, as we'll be making only a limited number. Get one for yourself and one for someone you know will get a bang out of it. Send check, money order or S&H Green Stamps to John Crowley, 685 N. 8th St., Newark, NJ 07107. Just kidding about the Green Stamps.

God Bless the Postal Service...and John Crowley. Send one to the Bronx. I hope there's a 60's photo of you chasing Norman 'Jackie' Shultz up Orange Street.
At Dunkin' Donuts, Main Street Orange, N.J. at 6:30 am looking tired, old and haggard.
He moved there with his dad (Apartments)on ParkAvenue in Orange near the cemetery) when the highway took his house.
I used to see him and his dad walking on Park Avenue in the early 80's. I haven't seen dad in years. I assume he passed away. One of these days I will start a conversation.
We're working on it now and should start shipping by next week. We're not sold out yet but they are going fast; I got a bunch of orders this week. Get your orders in soon, folks.
hi John: I am sorry to hear about the grant being turned down, please tyry again or elsewhere. Dennis Molinaro told me about it. I am very interested in purchasing an Orange Street calendar. Valerie
(Val, of course, works in the New Jersey room at the NPL and has helped us many times. She is also a true Rosevillian, living as she does on N. Sixth Street.)
Thanks to all of you who've sent in checks. I've cashed them and am going to Mexico. Just kidding. But do order soon. Alternatively, I should have some with me at the upcoming First Friday Christmas Get-Together at Cryan's.
Hey JC,
Love the pictures on the Orange Street calendar. But where are the little green fishes on the Fridays?
Anybody have an old copy of a Saint Rose calendar? Were those put out by the church? or the local funeral homes? Didn't they have the name of the Saint's day for almost every day?
Hey, maybe next year we can put the birthdays of our "Fiends of Roseville" on our calendar as saints' days... LOL (as if "First Fridays" aren't enough of a sacrilege)

Got my calendar today John. Really love the pictures. Thanks much for the kind words. I was glad to be a small part of it. Remember, this effort is just the beginning.
Thanks. Everyone should be getting theirs within the next few days. By the way, Dan Lane did most of the heavy lifting on this project, so credit given where it's due, despite his commendable modesty. Those who get the calendars with two Novembers, however, can blame me!
Hi John, If the second printing is not already sold out, I would like five of them. I just kep forgetting to send in the check and order, but I will do so today (if there are any left). Also, re: the St. Rose calendars, I believe thet Finneran's (or was it Kane's?) that subsidized them. Also, I just want to wish a Merry Christmas to everyone! This site has meant so much to me...
Thanks, Barb. I have put five aside for you. Likewise, orders I've received as of today will be filled. But that just about cleans us out. However, if enough people still want to buy any, I'll see if it's possible to run off some more. Anybody else?
John, my brother and sister-in-law, in Ga., received their calendar and are thrilled with it! Her grandfather had a butcher shop on same block (14th st. and 9th av.?) as the Berg drugstore and her father grew up with the Berg's children including the doctor and Moe. She grew up in E.O. just across the border on 15th street.
Another idea, maybe you should sell the calendars at Newark Airport so that there would be something of Newark among all the stuff they sell labelled N.Y.!
Hi Dennis,
As a matter of fact, we just opened the box tonight and I already have made a pig of myself... Nothin' like fine chocolate and a glass of cold milk. Mmmmmm. Thank you. Your brother-in-law really pulled one the wool over my eyes this time. My 60th birthday party was an absolute surprise! I only wish that you and all my sibs could have made it to CT for the festivities. I still feel a mere 20 or 30 years old... Love, Sis B.
Hi Pat. I did get your message, and left one for you. I have put two aside for you and will send them out as soon as your address comes to hand. Thanks.
John, received the calendars today. I am thrilled with them. My brother will get a kick out of it on Christmas. Thank you for such a great idea.
It made me and my husband Bill smile looking at the old Orange Street.
My parents and I had a grand old time going through the Orange St. Calendar. Next day they took it to a family event in South Jersey, and I've been asked to order three more. Can it be done? Do we have the technology?
Oops, found the envelope in my car this morning that I thought I had mailed to you last week. However, it is now on it's way. The checks in the mail as the saying goes.
Johnnnnnnn.....I live in Laguna Hills, Calif. I just noticed this message today (dec 16th) is there anyway I could get three of those calenders?? my brother, mom and I grew up in Newark, the 3 of us are out here (a few miles from eachother)and my mom is 77 now and I couldn't imagine anything that would give her more of a rush then to see a calender with pictures of NEWARK!! my brother and I would go crazy over one too! I know you are selling them for 10.00 but I am willing to buy 3 of them for 100.00 to help your cause and because I seen this message so late. And of course s&h to calif here. If it would take more due to production costs......give me the details, as long as you throw in a few "whole Hot dog sandwhich" from Dickie Dees.....I'll do it!! lol (of course I'm buying!)hope to hear from you, you can email me too.
Everybody who ordered one should have their calendar by today or tomorrow. If you haven't received yours by then, please let me know. There are a couple left, so last come, last served!
Frank, did you send a check? I don't think I got one from you. As for putting the calendar on your website, I'm afraid we're pretty much sold out. Thanks, though.
I mailed cash, a no-no. I was so dilusional I may have sent it to the wrong address. Next time. 6 am today, Dunkin donuts Main street Orange saw Jackie Scholtz. He looked better. One day we will talk. Merry Christmas.
Frank,
I ordered a calendar from John and will be more than happy to let you have it. I do not trust the mail so you will have to come and get it or I'll bring it next time we are up in New Jersey.
Maybe Brian or Mark could make a copy ( or is that illegal, John Crowley?).
