Hi -- quite a while ago I posted on this board asking if anyone knew what happened to Romaine Simmons from the class of 1967. She was a few years old than me, and we lived at 244 Roseville Ave. The last time I saw her was around 1964 or 1965. Any infor appreciated.
Hi Elaine;
Well I just thought I would tell you that at the first St. Rose reunion- Sally Florek(Phyllis's fabulous mom) and I were discussing Romaine at length also. Romaine was in the other 8th grade class(M-Z) but we attended Our Lady of the Valley HS- Romaine was there for freshman and sophomore years- and never returned for Junior year- I guess that would have been Sept 1969 or so...
I knew that Romaine lived in a great apt on Roseville Ave with her mom, step-father and a baby sister but by then the neighborhood had started to change so we assumed that the family moved out of Newark (as we did in 1970).
She was a lovely girl and always appeared to be to me -well perhaps a bit sad.. I was wondering myself how her story turned out. Hopefully, she will be fooling around the Internet soon, type in a Google search for Roseville and find Bodholdt's Diner.
Thanks for the information. I didn't know that Romaine had gone to Our Lady of the Valley High School in ORANGE, NJ. I lived in Orange from 1967 - 1968, it would have been great if we had run into each other back then ... I was 12 when we left Orange, NJ (moved to Pennsylvania).
Someone mentioned to me that they were of the impression that Romaine Simmons was no longer alive. If that's true, it's a terrible shame. I know her MOTHER had the same name as her (Romaine), so I wonder if possibly the person had mixed up the two?
About Romaine being sad, I know she loved her father very much, and I'm just it must have been very difficult for her to lose him at such a young age. I never met her step-father or saw her baby sister.
Shortly after I met Romaine (her last name was Kelly at that time), she had some medical problems that required her to have her legs in casts and she was in a wheel chair. I was glad to hear that she got well enough to only require a brace on her leg.
I think of her often -- she was one of my first friends.
