Roseville Map

Can anyone give me some direction?

I've been looking at the map of the Roseville area that John Crowley has posted here and cannot seem to figure out the part of the park near Orange Street. Doesn't the road in the park loop around and end at Clifton Avenue? Is that part beyond where the loop is on the map that has been removed by the addition of Rt 280? Is there a bit of lake between the loop in the road and Orange Street? What is the circular pond on the map? Is that where the rink is/was? I understand that this is an older map but I'd also like to understand how it was 'back in the day'.

The part of the park between Sussex & Orange is / was Boys Park. And the oval pond shaped water is / was the old resevoir. The ice rink was built next to it and Clifton.

Danny Boy, If you got out of Kearny once in a while, you would know the surrounding area! As my good friend, John McCree states, the grassy area south of Orange St., was Boy's Park. Johnny Boy won quite a few medals for the St. Rose track team at that site. However, he must have missed a few Geometry classes because the body of water he is referring to is a circle not an oval. I mention this because my track team days were short and sweet. My first track meet at Boy's Park, I was supposed to run the 3rd leg of the 4x100 relay. There was a delay to the start of the race so I decided to relax on the infield! I feel asleep and we lost that race. Mr. McGlone, our track coach, was so mad he yelled at me all the way up Orange St. That was my last day on the track team. Oh, the good old days!!!!

Ice rink

March 19 2005, 8:01 AM

The ice rink is now a roller skating rink. We took three bus loads of students there two weeks ago. It is a very nice facility. Unlike the ice rink, it is inside a building.

Our good friend Joanne Lardiere of 2nd Street attended "Jesus Christ Superstar" yesterday with her 8th grade class from Saint Peters School in Parsippany at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank. Sitting next to her were teachers and students from St. Roses. What originally threw her off was that the teacher said they were from St. Rose of "Leema". Joanne lived on 2nd Street between Orange Street and 7th Avenue, Sussex Avenue School '62 and EOCHS '66. Didn't we always pronounce it "LIma"? I think I just always said St. Roses without the Leema or Lima.

She is hosting a St Paddies Dinner tonight. The guest list includes Joanne Rocco Hand SRL '62 EOCHS '6 and Charles Hand Saint Josephs '59 and St. Benedicts '63.,

She saw Donald Belfiore of Bubbles Stroe fame at a recent Mr. Saint Domincs School Dinner. A great man.

Well, I know I always said Lima - as did all my classmates. My public school friends teased that we went to St. Rose of Lima bean school. Up here in CT, our parish is also St. Rose of Lima, but of course they pronounce it Leema. I still say "Lima" and don't care if they think I'm ignorant.

Right you are Bob-O. That would be circle not an oval. Never under estimate a degree from Seton Hall University.

In the summer of '65 there was a fenced in area in boys park directly in the center, just behind the 1st street tun-sol parking lot...i climbed over the fence to see what was going on and there was a hole 12 feet across that went 150 feet straight down. At the bottom was a tunnel heading east to west. The guy that chased me out of there said it was a new water supply tunnel.
