With apologies, I have forgotten who sent in this shot of the SRL Imperial Lancers color guard. Although I clawed my way up to second soprano bugle with this outfit, I recognize only a few from this admittedly fuzzy pic, so I will leave the IDs to others. Another photo came with this one, so I'll include it below.
Strong before our birth are the Sons of the Garden State.
Wow- I spy myself and Karen Jacoby- Phyllis Florek and Angela Silvestri among the group! We were the Junior Color Guard for the Imperial Lancers and spent many hours drilling under the watchful eye of Mr. Robert Davis Sr. about 1965-67??
I am so truly thankful for those times and have only happy memories. Thanks again Mr.Davis for giving of your time and yourself! You organized us,worked us hard and befriended a bunch of kids that will always be grateful for the experience.
Thank you Laura. My wife Paggy, and many others who helped us, enjoyed working with all the young boys and girls who faithfully appeared every weekend to make the group as successful as it was. We took great pride in your accomplishments during those
years. It makes me happy to see how all of you turned out. Now,you are all about ten years older then we were when we got involved with the (second turnout) of an Imperial Lancer Drum and Bugle Corps. We used to sit and review the movies we have of the Corp during and after parades and especially the weekend we spent with everyone at Wildwood.
Most of you are 'giving back' to Saint Rose of Lima what you received during that period. My congratulations to all of you.
OK John, now I will tell you how I got all that hair under the shako, I took it off! Was a wig!!!! Only kidding. Those were the days of the teased hair. Ladies remember? All that hairspray & Dippity Do??? Glad that's over with. Now "au natural" is in & my curly hair is the beneficiary of that!!!!
In the top picture of the Juniors- I am the second one(with pigtails) from the right-Karen Jacoby ( now doing important missionary work in Peru) is next to me. Phyllis Florek (sporting a very That Girl flip) is 3rd from the left- Angela Silverstri is the fifth girl from the right-(teased hair=abused by Sr Gertrude)
Any one else recognize....? anybody!
Also on the second photo of the Senior Color Guard in their spiffy black/green blouses- I am delighted to spy the Senior Mr.Davis in the background!!
I must confess when we first met for lunch several years ago at Cryans-- I nearly fell over when Bobby Davis walked in! He looks much like his dad it was like I was time-warped back-- well, he brought me back to earth quick by mentioning that he and all of us--- are about 10 years older than his dad when MrDavis coached us.!
